WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued the following statement regarding today’s bipartisan immigration reform proposal:
I appreciate the good work that senators in both parties have put into trying to fix our broken immigration system. There are some good elements in this proposal, especially increasing the resources and manpower to secure our border and also improving and streamlining legal immigration. However, I have deep concerns with the proposed path to citizenship. To allow those who came here illegally to be placed on such a path is both inconsistent with rule of law and profoundly unfair to the millions of legal immigrants who waited years, if not decades, to come to America legally.

Just heard Rubio on Lou Dobbs talking about Cruz’s statement.
Both Cruz and Rubio have some good sounding ideas, none of which are amnesty.
Read the statement. Cruz says he is not happy with the “path to citizenship.”
It takes Cruz, brand new there and hispanic himself, to be the only one to say what is perfect common sense and morality.
I can’t think of a good reason based on morality or what’s best for the nation, to treat illegal aliens as though they are the most wonderful people on earth for sneaking in here and taking advantage of America when they have their own countries, and when this is NOT a good start to being a good citizen.

Rubio wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal saying he supports amnesty and he was part of the gang of 8 that signed onto the Amnesty bill that came out of the Senate today.
The so-called “Gang of Eight” includes four Democrats — Charles Schumer of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Michael Bennet of Colorado – and four Republicans - Senators John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida and Jeff Flake of Arizona.
US relations with Mexico or for that matter any country
When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?
Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.
Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.
Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .
Cruz’s bluster is trying to deflect attention from the 15-18 RINOS in the House who are going to vote with 200+ RATS to pass Amnesty.
If Cruz was honest, he would be calling out the 15-18 RINOS and telling everyone to let them know that they will pay for siding with Boner and the Democrats.
Maybe, but on LDobbs he said he was not for any illegal getting a head start on citenzship ahead of anyone trying to legal immigrate. Am pretty sure he did say “no amnesty”. His proposal was to require quite a few hoops just to getting a temporary work Visa with no guaranteed path to citizenship, no welfare, no free rides.
“Amnesty passes with 218 Votes out of 235. If Rats pickup empty house seats, then Boner only needs 15 RINO votes to pass the bill.”
You seem in a BIG HURRY to give up. That would be the strategy of a TROLL, but I won’t accuse you of being such (just yet).
The FACT is that the Dems had a much stronger Amnesty majority in BOTH the House and Senate in Obama’s first two years and STILL didn’t do anything.
So instead of trying to DEMORALIZE us FReepers before things have even begun, how about you join the fight, or just shut up. We have enough on our plates just dealing with the media.
Just a dose of reality, Spanky. The deal is done and you should grow up if you don’t realize it. If you want to fight, the people that need to feel the pressure are the 15-18 RINOS that are already in Boner’s pocket. As well as the additional 15-20 RINOS who could be convinced to go along with them but are on the fence. Spending any time and effort on anyone but the RINOS is a waste of effort.
Cruz is head and shoulders above Rubio. Cruz is a consistent conservative because he approaches it as a philosophy he holds deeply—not a buffet line of choices.

Rubio is PRO-AMNESTY and AMNESTY LIBERAL. When he was Speaker of the Florida House he was killing bills that would have given Florida tough anti-Illegal Alien laws like Arizona and Alabama. Rubio is Amnesty Liberal...and this latest bill is AMNESTY
Gun grab is DOA. The RINOS don’t want it. Many House RATS don’t want it either. Maybe Universal checks, maybe, but nothing more. I’d bet against it.
I agree...but I saw a few Dems (maybe Reps too) flip their positions - to our side, once they heard us. That’s why I don’t like to give up before the fight begins.
I agree the votes may be there today, but they are NOT voting on Amnesty today. In fact, I WAS SURE they would get it passed in 2009/2010, with the HUGE DEM majorities they had at the time, and with the President supporting it. But they weren’t even able to get a watered-down Dream Act passed.
So give the people a chance to speak before giving up...please.
Well obviously the extended unemployment is going to be stopped as a part of this bill since we must have very low unemployment to bring in 11 milliuon illegals to work.
The speed at which they accomplish their common goals?
