Later Thursday, a spokesman for the NRA said that while the group was working with members of Congress to "address the problems with the background check system," the group would not support expanding background checks to include private transfers.
Manchin talks out every side of his mouth.

Manchin is a phoney and I hope the voters of West Virginia remember this when he comes up for election again.

The NRA should be working on eliminating background checks altogether.

The NRA are NOT working with Joe Manchin. From a "Statement from Chris Cox" email I received from the NRA this afternoon :
"An article appearing on TheHill.com yesterday asserted that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) is working on a bill with the NRA that would implement universal background checks.
NRA does NOT support universal background checks and is not working with Manchin to implement this type of legislation. NRA opposes, and will continue to oppose, universal background checks and registration schemes.
We do believe that records of those who are prohibited by law from purchasing firearms (including those whose mental health history puts them in this category) ought to be included in the federal instant check system."

We have enough background checks now. Criminals don’t buy weapons at gun stores or gunshows. They buy them out of the trunk of a car. Mostly stolen. Universal background checks are just for law abiding citizens.

That's kinda like saying, we don't support abortion but we do support the morning after pill and a woman's right to choose.

Exactly, they should be fighting back not working with the enemy.
If that’s an irrational stance, so be it but it won’t change.

Hey Joe! How about you do one of those “background checks” on the person squatting in the White House?
