Our flag officers *must* realize that their Community Organizer-In-Chief has a white hot (no pun intended) contempt for them as well as the Armed Forces in general. The ambitious ones will have figured out how to advance over the next four years. The dedicated, patriotic ones know they don't have a prayer while Osama Obama’s in office
To: Nachum
I’ll wager that Osama has a *particular* contempt for the Marine Corpse, which could explain the reason for this move.

Gen Mattis never pulled any punches. That is why his Marines would crawl through hell dragging a gasoline bladder for him. His greatest quote comes during the Iraqi insugency when he met with Sunni tribal leaders.
“I come to you with tears in my eyes, I bring no artillery, but if you phuck with me I will kill you all”

A shakeup of generals and admirals has been going on since last year. I imagine Obama is replacing them with more politically reliable butt kissers.

Well, he's gone. One of the last good ones.
And if you really want to get depressed, read this:
Marines studying mindfulness-based training
" CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) -- The U.S. Marine Corps, known for turning out some of the military's toughest warriors, is studying how to make its troops even tougher through meditative practices, yoga-type stretching and exercises based on mindfulness. Marine Corps officials say they will build a curriculum that would integrate mindfulness-based techniques into their training if they see positive results from a pilot project. Mindfulness is a Buddhist-inspired concept that emphasizes active attention on the moment to keep the mind in the present."

Is this a part of Obama's flexibility deal with Putin, to fire all our top military leaders?

A primary reason I cannot stand the way our military is set up under civil rule, not that it shouldn’t be just not the way it is, is that some punk-assed little kid like Obama can come in and trash a 40 year career of a General that this nation needs.

One bigtime weakness at DOD is that there are far too many civilians, making to much money and with too much power. When Pentagon cuts are called for let them be from the civilian force!!

I’m sure there’s at least one XO from my past who’s thrilled by all this. We used to have some very heated discussions about gun control while I was on a CG. He was a W-2 (Washington Weenie), and as an O-5 felt very strongly that only police and the military should have access to firearms. Now he’s a Vice Admiral - go figure.

Here is the ultimate irony. The rap on the Administration of Bush The Younger was that they didn’t listen to dissentiing voices. So General Mattis asked embarrassing questions? That’s part of his job.

Andbthat is how chess, military battles and growing companies work.
The questions are always:
“What is our expected outcome?”
“How do we achieve that?”
“what is our contingency?”
“What next?”
“will thus get us closer to achieving our aims?”
“What next?”
And so and so on....
If at the end of your tactical goal you still have the same enemy what did you achieve?
