“Word on the national security street is that General James Mattis is being given the bum’s rush out of his job as commander of Central Command, and is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned,” reports veteran national security correspondent Thomas E. Ricks.
It now appears likely that Gen. Mattis, a Marine Corps legend, will leave his post as head of America’s most important combatant command in March, several months earlier than planned. Ricks continues:

Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way — not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, “And then what?

A primary reason I cannot stand the way our military is set up under civil rule, not that it shouldn’t be just not the way it is, is that some punk-assed little kid like Obama can come in and trash a 40 year career of a General that this nation needs.
One bigtime weakness at DOD is that there are far too many civilians, making to much money and with too much power. When Pentagon cuts are called for let them be from the civilian force!!
I’m sure there’s at least one XO from my past who’s thrilled by all this. We used to have some very heated discussions about gun control while I was on a CG. He was a W-2 (Washington Weenie), and as an O-5 felt very strongly that only police and the military should have access to firearms. Now he’s a Vice Admiral - go figure.

Speaking of that....What happened to the other 2 4 star Generals...Hamm and the other guy...those that have the rumors swirling about their “removal” for disobeying the Stand Down orders? I followed this like a nut for a while and then just saw it drip away.
Does anybody have a feel for what McCain is doing in his investigation? Is Hillary “Boo Boo” Clinton going to testify? Is this just going to peter out like Fast and Furious?
You know....I had hopes for McCain. He’s let us down so many times....But, THIS time....I was hoping that his time as a POW would drive him to reveal the truth.
Anybody have any ideas on if this investigation is just a joke? I kind of stopped following it...been let down too many times. Losing hope in our country.

Here is the ultimate irony. The rap on the Administration of Bush The Younger was that they didn’t listen to dissentiing voices. So General Mattis asked embarrassing questions? That’s part of his job.
I know he can’t be depended upon.
I just thought that because he rotted and was tortured for years in VN that this might be something that he would follow through on. You know...the “hero guys” begging for help? Well, I’m still hanging my hat on that...Dude.

“How do we achieve that?”
“what is our contingency?”
“What next?”
“will thus get us closer to achieving our aims?”
“What next?”
And so and so on....
If at the end of your tactical goal you still have the same enemy what did you achieve?
Perhaps he is a very strong Constitutionalist who would be willing to begin his campaign for the White House now and take the Democrats out in 2016?
