Sixty percent of high school and college students say they plan on owning guns at a later stage in life, an academic study from American University revealed on Monday.
According to a brand new study, sixty percent of young Americans plan on purchasing firearms in the future.
According to the study, about 40 percent of the American students surveyed said they definitely planned to own firearms once they had established their own households. Another 20 percent said they were contemplating owning guns.
Those findings were part of a broader study conducted by American University professor Jennifer L. Lawless and Loyola Marymount professor Richard L. Fox which focused on the political opinions of young Americans. The study was conducted prior the recent Newtown massacre, but after the Aurora theatre shooting.
Lawless told Campus Reform on Tuesday that in her view the findings were proof that President Obama should move swiftly, and without the permission of Congress if necessary, in order limit the availability of firearms.
The next generation plans on owning guns, so if we want to avoid the tragedies that weve seen we obviously need to move quickly and if an executive order is the way to do it, then that is the way the to do it, she said.
Lawless said the study was not prompted by the Aurora shooting, pointing to the fact that the study focused on a broad range of political opinions among young people which included firearms.
The study indicated that there is no significant difference between the percentage of high school and college students who are considering purchasing firearms. Both polled at about 60 percent.
Students who identified as Democrats were twice as likely to fear gun violence as those who were not, the study found. Only 33 percent of the respondents who were questioned were raised in households where guns were owned.
David Burnett, the public relations director of the conservative student group Students for Concealed Carry, told Campus Reform on Tuesday he was not surprised by the studys result.
With every single spree killing weve seen in this nation in the past twenty years, with every sexual assault that takes place, nine every day on college campuses, with every robbery report we have, with every campus that goes on lockdown, these gun free zones are proven to be indefensible and impractical, he said.
College campuses put pictures on the door and expect psychopaths to abide by them, he continued. I think more and more college students have been waking up to this reality in the past five years since Virginia tech and they dont want it.
I find that to be a very intriguing revelation. Why would that be? Could it be fear-mongering demagoguery against guns among Democrats to explain the otherwise inexplicable disparity?
That is, until I lost them in that tragic boating white water rafting incident.
"High Capacity" magazines alone don't do it for me, especially in light of how many unarmed conservatives there are because they tend to pilot boats about as well as a Kennedy - so I bought a few extra drums and several thousand rounds before prices skyrocketed.
When I finally lose them it won't be in some cliche boating accident story.
You lost yours in shallow waters — get a wetsuit and search for them.
I lost mine in the Marianas Trench. You find them and you can keep them.
I’ll do you one better. I lost mine in an America’s Cup yahting accident.
If the lefties keep pushing gun control this way in another two decades one out of two Americans may be gun owners instead of one out of three.
MOLON LAVE!
I think more and more college students have been waking up to this reality in the past five years since Virginia tech and they dont want it.
and yet, they not once, but TWICE overwhelmingly voted for that POS 0bama.
Over-educated damn fools! ;)
Taking guns away from people is endangering their lives.
Police cannot prevent crime or assaults they can only scribe a chalkline around your body.
You have to protect yourself.
This is good news, because even THEY get it. I think, even though kids aren't taught the history of socialism/communism in the public schools these days (the teachers union doesn't want to expose itself), they still understand the right of self defense - against ANYONE who tries to oppress them or deny them of their constitutional right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I’ve been wondering how a truther can be supportive of gun control. How can they believe the Fed gov would stage a terrorist attack killing over 3,000 people but don’t think they would herd us into ovens if they could do it unopposed?
Democrats are victims of their own self afflicted wounds. They've all screwed up their lives somehow, and they hate anyone who hasn't. (Notice how they cannot tolerate anyone else being happy with their lives.) The democrat base consists of communists, socialists (who want to be cared for by others), homosexuals, welfare queens, felons, race baiters, illegals, etc.
Anyway, they don't fear other people with guns as much as they fear themselves with a gun. They may overcompensate with elitism, but deep inside they have a serious self loathing.
So, Granny fixing cat stew tonight?
violent gun crimes have also gone down..the school gun free zones were implemented by the the butcher of Waco Janet Reno...makes one wonder if school shootings were an unintended consequence or actually intended like fast and furious.school shootings were near non-existant prior to gun free zones and drugs like prozac etc circa 1996.
Think of the Democrats you know. They are generally prone to emotion over reason.
Yes, I need to update that post with more info. I put it together a few months ago. Now I know that, since '92, violent crime is down 49% and murder is down 49%. Here is another good indication that gun control isn't really as popular as the libtards would have us believe.
