OUTLAW SWIMMING POOLS! Swimming pools are 52 times more likely to kill children than guns!

Posted on 01/10/2013 7:40:27 AM PST by ComtedeMaistre

Here is some excellent analysis that shows that swimming pools kill more children than guns, despite the fact that we have more guns than swimming pools in this country:

http://www.m1-garand-rifle.com/firearms-versus-swimming-pools.php

When you factor in the number of pools relative to that of guns, the analysis shows that a child is 52 times more likely to die in a swimming pool than by a gun shot. We need to outlaw swimming pools, in order to save the lives of children. I am all for pool control. We must fight to ensure that the pool builders lobby does not undermine our attempt to save the lives of children.

Why is Obama not holding a press conference to denounce the lack of pool control, and introduce licensing for people who own pools? Is it because guns are more effective at stopping communism than swimming pools?

Someone with graph skills could make a graph comparing gun deaths per year with other causes.

I have a diving board! Do I have to register it down at the US Government Dangerous Things Department of Registry?

With the proposed mandate to install ADA approved lifts for the disabled, I feel many pools will be shut anyway.

Thank You - That is a very good effort. Issue more of the obvious hypocrisy via “actual” stats.

IMHO - this type of rebuttal to the anti - 2nd Amendment Idiots will be effective.

The Mooch says we have an obesity problem. So I propose we ban spoons, especially tablespoons that carry way more calories than teaspoons.

Dunno if you have to register it, but watch out for lawyers looking for a way to sue you for having “an attractive nuisance.”

I posted the information below on FB on 12/20. It was in response to a gun banner who loves her pool!

***********************

I did some digging last night and found a few things. The FBI estimates that about 100 million US households have legal firearms and they also tracked about 350 deaths where a “rifle” was used. Semi-automatic rifles are some subset of that 350 number, but it is not explicitly tracked separately from bolt actions, pump actions or single shot rifles. So, the rate of “preventable deaths from semi-automatic rifles that are not needed” is no more than 0.00035%.

Then I went to the CDC stats and found that they estimate that about 8-10 million US households have swimming pools and they tracked about 3,500 drowning deaths, but they do not track specifically the subset of drownings that occurred in bath tubs, lakes, streams or swimming pools. So, the rate of “preventable deaths from swimming pools that are not needed” is no more than 0.035%.

Our government’s own numbers are showing us that swimming pools are 1,000 times more dangerous than semi-automatic rifles!

If we are willing to accept the premise that the federal government should infringe on our liberty to address unnecessary deaths, then we would see much more value in banning swimming pools! In addition, we would cause harm to much fewer individuals and we don’t even have to deal with a Constitutional issue.

Heck, we all know that swimming pools are a luxury that no family needs! We should only allow people to swim in government owned pools.

Or we could simply live with the consequences of individual liberty and understand that we can address evil doers whenever possible, but we will never be able to stop all evil.

As you may have guessed, my agenda is to expose the hypocrisy of liberal media elites.

I'd say you have your work cut out for you!

That's the logical response, but gun control isn't about logic, or at least logic that the antis will admit to. They hate and fear guns at a visceral level. They are true believers in the power of the state. Government has substituted for God in their worldview, and anything that diminshes the power of their god - government - is hated and feared. freedom to defent one's self from tyranny is considered a form of blasphemy and hence not subject to rational discussion

To slightly misquote Stuart Chase, "For the true believer, no proof is necessary and no disproof possible."

Or to summarize anti-gunners are never satisfied until their oft stated goal of "A society where only the police and military are armed." is achieved.

They cannot be reasoned with because although they falsely claim to be interested in public safety, their antipathy to an armed populace isn't based on reason or logic. It's based on the worship of the state and anything that reduces the power of the state is viewed as blasphemy.

They cannot be bargained with because they have nothing to bring to their side of the table. Their idea of a bargain is to demand all of your rights, but settle for destroying some of them now and some of them later.

They don't have any fears about the process, because they risk nothing and don't have anything to lose. Their laws don't pass? So what? They'll just try again. They also know that we're too law abiding to do what really needs to be done

They feel no pity for the citizens wanting to protect their families and property from criminals. As far as they're concerned anyone with a gun IS a criminal.

And they NEVER QUIT. They may rest for a time, but like now they NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE

There are only three possible final outcomes

  1. They are successful and we are all disarmed and a tyranny that will make the Soviet Union look like utopia will begin We are killed by their beloved police either in resisting arrest or as part of the 25 million non re-educatable later
  2. We kill them and their JBTs in sufficient numbers to end the threat for a generation

As having just installed a gunnite pool in my yard(gunnite is appropriate huh), I can assure everyone that armies of the state's parasites swarmed us for months ensuring compliance with safety standards meant to keep the money and state jobs flowing.

Ground plane requirements for the whole area, looped to rods(uniform potential)

Special gates for access areas

Alarms on each door to the exterior of the home with 100db chirping alerts that a door is opened(cannot be shut off)

A special float switch assembly with a siren which must activate if the water is disturbed during non-use.

A bunch more too petty to list.

We had a non-diving pool installed, because our homeowners informed us of being dropped if we had one. So now we jump off the sunroom roof into the pool instead.

Diving board = carnage

I would hazard that you have a better chance of being eaten by a Polar Bear than being killed by an assault rifle.

Please dont give them any ideas, many communities around us have closed thier pools because of regulations. Now instead of a safe pool kids swim in unsupervised rivers.

This is only for the high-capacity pools.

A one-gallon bucket that you have to reload each time is more than sufficient.
