Obama to Use Executive Order on Gun Control
Townhall.com ^ | January 9, 2013 | Katie Pavlich

Posted on 01/09/2013 7:36:18 PM PST by Kaslin

Vice President Joe Biden is meeting with victims of gun violence today. Speaking with reporters beforehand, Biden said President Obama may use an executive order to push through more gun control and Second Amendment restrictions. More from the Weekly Standard.

"The president is going to act," said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. "There are executives orders, there's executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required."

Biden said that this is a moral issue and that "it's critically important that we act."

Biden talked also about taking responsible action. "As the president said, if you're actions result in only saving one life, they're worth taking. But I'm convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of americans and take thousands of people out of harm's way if we act responsibly."

We knew this was coming. The White House has been saying for a month that they are acting "quickly" on new gun control measures. Senator Dianne Feinstein's sweeping new gun control legislation hasn't even been introduced yet and Obama isn't the kind of president who has shown a willingness to wait on Congress.

If Obama pushes through new regulations using executive powers, the process will unfold in different parts. After an order is signed, the Department of Justice led by Attorney General Eric Holder, will be in charge of enforcement through the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Now, how far the order will go is the big question. You can bet it will ban semi-automatic rifles and large ammunition magazines, but how Obama grandfathers in old, lawfully purchases semi-automatic rifles remains unknown. Will he require citizens who already own these weapons to be fingerprinted as Feinstein's bill requires? Or will he go so far as confiscation as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has suggested? Time will tell.

with the division being created by the Tyrants, ...

Good point. For every Obama we can see, there are at least two more in the shadows. I've sensed the presence of a secret Politburo behind Obama ever since his orcs popped that massive Obamacare bill in world-record time, over 2000 pages of it, with dozens of issues worked out and scores of booby-traps, secret passages, and hidden trapdoors prefab and built-in. That document took years to write. Who wrote it, and when?

Bet it was someone working for George Soros.

In any case, Barky is the front man. He isn't the steer calling the play, or the cannon guiding the team. He's more a stall, someone who gets in the victim's face and holds his attention while the damage is done elsewhere. Seen this way, Obama is just one member of a criminal wrecking crew who are stripping the country of its wealth and power and the People of their freedom and dignity.

He and Soros had those poor children killed like the bumps in the road in Benghazi.

I don't believe that for a second. Exploited it, yes, but arranged it? Hell, no.

He wasn't ready to move after the Aurora killings, but he's decided he's ready now.

.....if he does NOT start impeachment proceedings (its the speakers duty to call for them, isn’t it?)

No. Any member of Congress can introduce a bill of impeachment, and a bill of impeachment always has the floor and is in order. The member can't be ruled out of order and told to sit down and shut up. He will be heard.

A fully-aroused representative who stands his ground, has an empty bladder and intravenous drip support (or better, a tag-team of like-minded representatives) can ramrod his bill all the way to a vote.

It seemed that the entire nation was caught up in a willing blindness and deception this time around - and I speak of the supporters of either final candidate.

Interestingly, I and about 1% of all voters voted for Gary Johnson -- this is actually incredible given (1) the lower amount of money the Libertarian Party spent in advertisement, (2) the restrictions placed on third-parties by both the Democratic and Republican parties... the reason for this is, I think, that Johnson has proven himself a capable leader (Gov of New Mexico; re-elected even when the state was solidly Democrat) and actually distinguishable from Obamney.

MUST READ——FR POSTED

It’s Not “Game Over”— It’s Time for the GOP to Counterattack
Townhall.com | January 9, 2013 | Kurt Schlichter/ Posted by Kaslin

The current state of the GOP brings to mind the surviving Marines in “Aliens,” with no shortage of demoralized hacks lamenting their inability to resist by channeling Private Hudson: “Maybe you haven’t been keeping up on current events but we just got our a**** kicked, pal!” ——

So what? So we took a hit on the Fiscal Cliff. Stand up, brush off and get back into the fight. This is no time for self-pity, no time for weakness. Every combat leader knows that when you take a hit, you regroup, reorganize, and prepare to counterattack.

—snip—

And guns – talk about a golden opportunity to defeat Obama while also helping set the stage for a Democrat wipe-out in 2014! Obama and his progressive pals are giddy with the idea that Newtown will let them jam through a whole slew of Second Amendment-trashing measures before everyone starts thinking again. If Obama’s actually foolish enough to proceed – and I am not sure he is – he’s setting himself up for a huge loss.

GOP, remember Napoleon’s admonition to never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Let Obama try and force the red state Democrat senators to come out against guns. Let the Democrats tear themselves up while we watch and gobble popcorn.

Heck, we should egg them on – like by trying to force a Senate vote on, say, a provision which reaffirms the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for the protection of their families and communities and directs that all federal law shall be interpreted toward preserving and protecting that right. Let’s see how all those Democrats paying lip service to the Second Amendment feel about voting on that.

And if some bill finally limps out of the Senate, hopefully without a single GOP vote, Speaker Boehner should mimic Harry Reid’s fiscal cliff antics and just let it die. No debate. No discussion. No vote. Obama’s dream of disarming his opponents, paid for with the careers of several sitting Democrat senators, will die in the hopper. It will be a thing of beauty.

Remember, this is an existential crisis for our country. Now is not the time to “govern;” it’s the time to defeat Obama and his radical left-wing agenda. No, you can’t say that out loud – simpering wimps will shudder and fret. Just do it, even as you talk about working together and compromising and hugging and all that goo-goo baloney. Republican, quit shouting, “Game over, man! Game over!”

Counterattack, seize the initiative, and start winning again. Play for keeps. Stop channeling Hudson and start channeling Ripley. It’s time to figuratively nuke the site from orbit – it’s the only way to be sure.

EOs have the force of law. Only two have ever been overturned by the courts. Congress may over ride them, but there aren’t enough voted for that.

Cops and military will follow orders. They will go door to door if needed.
There will be a ban, and it is probable there will be a grab. The GOP is powerless to stop it.

We are all waiting until the first shot is fired against Fort Sumter (so to speak).

There is nothing we can do until we all know that to try to free our country politically is useless. Our political system abandoned the Constitution long ago. We have to be positive that we have been actually attacked from within and that means actual gun confiscation.

When that actually starts the people will rise in unison and CW-II will actually begin.

How dare these freaking corrupt politicians try to take the property of law abiding gun owners for the actions of madmen that should never have been walking around free. By what rationale do they think it is legitimate to punish us and deprive us of our rights for something we didnt do? Tar and feathering would be too good for them.

Since WHEn has this administration acted responsible? They are nothing more than opportunists reacting to a crisis.

“are there ANY organizations coordinating anything that is worthwhile to join in? We need to show our numbers and show it loudly... where is the that voice?”

About 25 states have state-sponsored militias. For example, South Carolina has two active militia battalions. Anyone can join. If you can’t join, you can donate money to pay for training and equipment. This is NOT the national guard; its separate from that and under the control of the governor and the state. The state militia and the national guard would be called out to defend against an invasion of the state by enemy forces. Legislation has been introduced to arrest and disarm federal bureuacrats.

If a sitting elected official can modify your Constitutional rights with the stroke of a pen, you have no immutable rights.

We do if we prosecute and jail the bastard. But since hands are tied by the Washington elite
there is not much by way of law that will happen. In the end it's the voters
responsibility to protect our liberty's.

99-Weeks of unemployment keeps people complacent towards what Washington is doing.
If the duration were 20-weeks people would be up in arms over the spending and golf.

The Sheeple have been conditioned and we have at least 47% or more people that pay no taxes, have all sorts if benefits and those people will not rock the boat or care.
The rest of us who do care are going to find it difficult to effect change in a Political Environment that has become grossly corrupted.
We have evolved since W.W. II into that which we fought a war to stop, a country that is now a Police State and one becoming more Tyrannous every day and no one seems to care or able to stop it.

With respect to Boehner, he was conservative for about an hour before his re-election as Speaker.
All the new Congress critters are being sequestered in the sandbox and told what to do, or else.

I question exactly how far any President can go with executive orders.
I would like to see a study of how many have ever been issued and what they were.
I believe we might find that until Franklin Roosevelt became President Executive orders were probably used sparingly but of course under Roosevelt that power was greatly expanded, in many instances Unconstitutionally I believe.
Nixon even used a EO to form the EPA.
Obama certainly had pushed the envelope further than most in recent memory and that just might be the Tripping Point if used in trying to push a Gun Control Agenda.
Also someone pointed out in the Gun Control Act of 1968 that buried in that bill was a provision for the Secretary of the Treasury to ban any and all imported guns if it did not fit the description of one for sport. Does anyone not think that the new nominee Jack Lew would not use this?
We are indeed in perilous times.
