Backlash Against Wendys, Taco Bell for Cutting Hours and Blaming Obamacare By Elizabeth S. Mitchell on January 9, 2013 12:11 PM
Few things grab the publics attention like a celebrity-backed boycott, protest, or backlash against a specific brand or company. Today, Wendys and Taco Bell find themselves on the wrong end of just this sort of upheaval.
Roughly 100 Wendys employees in the Omaha, Nebraska area will have their weekly schedules reduced to 28 hours a week so that they will no longer qualify for the health care benefits that Obamacare mandates for full-time employees. A Taco Bell in Guthrie, Oklahoma enacted a similar policy.
Even though these underhanded approaches seem unique to these specific franchises, the backlash against the Wendys and Taco Bell corporations has been swift.
Celebrities like Castle star Nathan Fillion and comedian Sarah Silverman voiced their outrage via Twitter, and many people pledged to avoid not just those specific locations, but all restaurants owned by the chains in question.

Why don’t they just quit and get high paying jobs with full benefits? With the economic recovery in its 4th year, it should be easy. /s

1. They didn't qualify for healthcare benefits in the first place, before Obamacare forced this change.
2. Nothing underhanded about it.
3. Never heard of either of these "celebrities."
4. I don't use Facebook or Twitter.
So, permit me to doubt that this revolt against Wendy's or Taco Bell's--or thousands of other businesses--will amount to much.
Yeah. The layabout apocalypse. Terrifying. Not.
All those waivers are NOT going to be continued
They were just granted to get Obamna past the election without some of the worst consequences starting to kick in
Unwanted DVDs make excellent range targets...don’t waste them.
I don’t go to Wendy’s anymore because it seemed every one I’d walk into was owned by (fill in the blank) and the food was old.
But knowing I won’t have to look at Sarah Silverman may make me reconsider.
Why get pissed at the business that is just trying to survive? You all should have been pissed at the idiot who caused all this and not voted him back into office.......
Simple. Because there’s always people willing to step in and prevent reality from asserting itself.
Take unemployment for example. Most of us do everything we can to hold onto our jobs (being a good worker, showing up on time, etc) because we know if we lose it, bills, starvation, and homelessness inevitably come if we don’t get another one. That’s reality asserting itself.
Well, in steps the government with welfare, and reality is held off, and with it is the incentive for people to hold onto their jobs, since they know that if they lose them, big brother will keep them fed, clothed and sheltered.
You can expect big brother to step in on this as well. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if, in the near future, big brother passes some decree forbidding businesses to cut hours or raise prices (aka, Directive 10-289). They’ve already done it with wages, so why not hours?
I wonder when Obama will add his version of Directive 10-289. He’s staked so much on Obamacare that it would be very humiliating for it to send things to he!! so soon.
Well, here’s the choice - do you want a $5.00 meal at Taco Bell, or do you want to pay $10.00 for the same meal? That’s about the difference, and if the franchise wants to remain in business, they will not be able to sell their meals at that price.
Nathan Fillion and comedian Sarah Silverman — who?
They took to twitter? That’s serious stuff there! /sarc
Did the supply of sawdust (for filler) dry up about that time?
The only backlash I feel against Taco Bell is from the beating it gives my stomach hours later! lol.
Seriously though, you can get pretty much anything at Taco Bell made vegetarian. I love it for that reason (and the taste). Now I love it because I am pissing off liberals by eating there. I know what’s for lunch tomorrow!
