A new analysis of the American Freshman Survey, which has accumulated data for the past 47 years from 9 million young adults, reveals that college students are more likely than ever to call themselves gifted and driven to succeed, even though their test scores and time spent studying are decreasing.
Psychologist Jean Twenge, the lead author of the analysis, is also the author of a study showing that the tendency toward narcissism in students is up 30 percent in the last thirty-odd years. This data is not unexpected. I have been writing a great deal over the past few years about the toxic psychological impact of media and technology on children, adolescents and young adults, particularly as it regards turning them into faux celebritiesthe equivalent of lead actors in their own fictionalized life stories.

“Must be they all got gold stars at the end of the skool year.”
Then we wonder why people dismiss conservatism out of hand. We wonder why conservatives have a reputation for being cold and heartless. We wonder why we lose elections.
Maybe it is because of piss poor attitudes like yours that drive other people away because you get your jollies tearing them down, as opposed to helping people get on board with our conservative values. Sorry, but you’re not that superior just because you can spell. A blowhard with good grammer is still a blowhard.
Why would anyone want to be in a political foxhole with someone like you?
Reality will do just fine. In the cycle of human beings, this "era of self" will be rewarded grandly with plenty of bad news.
My son is a member of our local volunteer fire department. He is the youngest and newest memeber. That and Royal Rangers taught him respect for the older and more experienced.
I hope he finds a wife when he turns 18. A nice one. So far his list is that she has to be able to cook well, ride four wheelers, snowmobiles, dirtbikes, trucks, and love children and want a lot of them, and be nice, and not eat junk food. And not be too fat or too thin. And be blond, or brown haired. And have pretty eyes.
Not a bad list.

People are crabby lately, with good reason, due to acute Obamitis.
Shake it off and keep up the good fight.
Ignorance is not sarcasm.
If you want to be understood try using standard English. Of course, that takes away from the ever more popular childish form of language called texting.
If you want people's votes or attention or spending money, the easiest way to get it is to flatter them.
Well, you could rob or defraud them, but on balance, it's flattery that gets you everywhere.
That might not have worked a generation or two ago -- or it might not have had any ill effects -- but over time the consequences are clear.
Are you serious? Seems young to me.
