Georgetown University constitutional law professor Louis Michael Seidman has just about had it with the focus of his 40 years of academic study. As he writes in the New York Times on Monday, it is the Constitution itself which has allowed for the series of legislative follies that finally resulted in the “fiscal cliff.” Seidman says that it is time for Americans to realize what lawmakers have known since the constitution’s inception – it is okay to ignore it.
“As the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downrght evil provisions,” Seidman writes.
Our obsession with the Constitution has saddled us with a dysfunctional political system, kept us from debating the merits of divisive issues and inflamed our public discourse. Instead of arguing about what is to be done, we argue about what James Madison might have wanted done 225 years ago.
He goes on to detail the number of American politicians who have used every opportunity to sideline the Constitution; from John Adams to Abraham Lincoln to Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Well, 40 years in academia is proof that he's a total non-hacker. Peope like him are incapable of success in the real world so they hide out on college campuses.
“Academics” are often the most narrow-minded and reactionary people I meet.
Snide remarks about the “invisible and permanent powers-that-be” (Republicans) trying to take down minorities...... is a sentiment some minorities bandy about when they try to justify (what they deem) is their loser status.....

We need to get someone with integrity----like Cong Allen West (not reelected)----- to write letters to his colleagues, and to the media.
Cong West needs to do the following:
(1) decry the agitation and intimidation tactics being used by these groups,
(2) expose using hatemongering for personal gain,
(3) emphasize the illegalities WRT threatening members of the US Congress,
(4) precpitate investigations into fraud and intimidation upon our electoral/legislative system by these hate-mongering groups, and,
(5) determine the scope and dimension of subversion these activities are visiting on US ntl security.

My father-in-law and I had a Christmas visit discussion a few years. He is a liberal ass. Voted for Obama...you are getting the picture. I try, for my wifes sake, to be amicable. But I have learned not to discuss politics with the bastard. Then somehow he started talking about conservatives...”worship THAT OLD RAG”, “THAT OLD RAG”. Sounds to me like a stinging rebuke to the progressives. This guy realizes that not following the constitution leads to chaos. He probably does not share my views! But think back to FDR and the way he changed the way government views the constitution.

What happens when the tax slaves decide they're not going to get out of bed in the morning either, because it's no longer worth the effort? They could make more if they did absolutely nothing (or at least they'd be free and no longer be used as a slave so some freeloader can party from birth to grave.) It would take a constitutional law professor to make such an ignorant statement. There is nothing wrong with the Constitution, it’s the idiot politicians who create all the problems. I can just imagine what a fine job this communist blowhard is doing teaching young people about our Constitution.

Funny...the reason we’re at the precipice of all things cliff (be it fiscal, social, moral, etc.) is because we have REFUSED to obey the limits invoked by the Constitution.

I’m sure you’ve done; but I’d tell anyone to read the Constitution for themselves. It’s relatively short, sweet, and to the point.
The Constitution is about all that’s standing in the way of President Obama (or any other) morphing into Dictator Until Further Notice Obama. Obama’s in a quest to shred that document. - Grant it oh Lord that he dearly FAIL!

Basic conclusion, he hates America and has never lived or seen another form of government and it’s poverty stricken folks; a lame arse even with his Hahvahd edumacation.
Socialism has exacerbated a problem that began when we two things happened: America turned away from its Christian/Godly heritage and Americans failed to exercise proper vigilance when the socialists began to creep in big time early in the 20th century.
I agree with this guy, been thinking the same for some time. The problem with the Constitution is that it allows the Constitution to be changed to the point of violating the very principals of Life, Liberty and Property upon which it is founded. So we have direct representation in the Senate, an income tax far beyond what any Founder ever imagined, a comatose legislative branch through voting rights and restrictions and an unbridled judiciary making laws. All of this made possible by the original Constitution. We need to rebuild it with wording that prohibits the modern-day expansion of government.
