BALTIMORE, Md. - The NRA leader appeared on Sunday morning talk shows, defending his stance to put armed guards in all schools. Local lawmakers are pushing back.
"They're stupid. It doesn't make sense to add more guns to schools. When you add more guns to reduce violence I think you increase violence," said Sen. Lisa Gladden, (D) Baltimore City.
The largest gun lobbyist broke its silence on Friday, a week after 26 people died at Sandy Hook Elementary by a man with three high-powered guns.
"If it's crazy to call for putting police in our school then call me crazy. I think American people want this," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA CEO.
The NRA insists new laws restricting gun owners, including a ban on assault weapons, will not work. But Senator Lisa Gladden, who represents Baltimore City, is making it her mission to outlaw extended magazines, which allow a gunman to carry more ammunition.
Also, she and her colleagues say there's no use for high-powered weapons.
"An automatic or semi-automatic weapon doesn't work for hunters and for all of those who are shooting animals for the purposes of food because it tears up the flesh," said Sen. Gladden.
When it comes to gun stores, a senator from Montgomery County will push to give state police the same authority as the ATF to audit how many guns were used in a crime and place sanctions on the owners. As for the weapons left on the street, Sen. Gladden has a plan.
"If you count them, it tells people I am going to make sure that the right person or the right people have access to these kinds of weapons," she said.
The sponsors of the state bills argue students were killed at Columbine despite the fact that armed police were there. The gun debate will begin in Annapolis, sometime after opening day on January 9, 2013.
Election day is a long way off and they think folks will forget...the NRA won't.
Silly gun grabbers.
Talk about stupid! Under the NRA plan the guy with the gun at the school would be the good guy. Under Sen. Lisa Gladden's plan the only guy with the gun at the school would be the bad guy. What a moron. And to think these people keep getting elected.
The NRA is absolutely right on this one. The entire leftist establishment is out of its mind.
... for your consideration. Hugs, Mom
Agreed.
Someone is challenging the left in the public debate.
More should.
Oh, I’m sure. I’m just taking issue with an obvious bit of propaganda thrown in simply as a means of getting morons in this country to say, “Tsk, tsk. Who needs ‘high-powered guns’ anyway? Why won’t they just ban them?”
sure, and if they spend money on school security there goes their fact finding junket to hawaii!
AND
they are exposed for stealing the money that was there in the first place!
Good find! What a hypocrite she is!
Exactly! And disarm the Secret Service and Capitol Police . . . and disarm the Hollywood types' security guards. Just for starters!
It really seems the loudmouths demanding a ban on guns all have extraordinary armed protection themselves.
Used to live in Fairfax County, VA, which has become a liberal stronghold thanks to all the government employees and contractors in the area. Amazing that there is a security force already assigned to schools yet someone would object to at least one of them being armed. Allowing at least one guard or other qualified employee, preferably with a concealed weapon, makes excellent sense to me. Keep the gun out of sight and what child is going to be harmed by its’ presence? Seems to me the potential benefit far outweighs political objections.
So I guess to liberals think Barbara Boxer is stupid for wanting National Guard troops in schools.

I already know she is.
Tactics have changed.
What the Democrats have to answer for is why are they against armed cops in schools now when they have already been there for years? Could they just be playing politics?
Would someone name the crazed, armed, mass killer that was stopped by an unarmed person?
Jared Lee Loughner. Just for info.
>>>I’ve found that it’s incredibly effective to point out that the NRA position is exactly the same one taken by Bill Clinton after Columbine:
That’s a great article. I’ve saved it as a PDF.
In retrospect, it would have been rhetorically effective had LaPierre said something like “The best suggestion the NRA has to offer is that the country follow former president Clinton’s advice from 2000 after the Columbine shooting . . .”
That would have put the mainstream media in the position of having to pushback against one of their heroes.
That figures... The only mass shooting in a decade not in a gun free zone was also the one stopped by the unarmed.
Usingt what passes for logic with these commie bastards, the U.S. should never have gotten involved with Hitler. After all, we added more guns to the situation.
Wasn’t trying to make an issue of you writing that. I was sure you were making light of what lefty fools keep spouting
