Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized. The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia. Across the country, 45 people have died due to the cold, and 266 have been taken to hospitals. In total, 542 people were injured due to the freezing temperatures, RIA Novosti reported. The Moscow region saw temperatures of -17 to -18 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and the record cold temperatures are expected to linger for at least three more days. Thermometers in Siberia touched -50 degrees Celsius, which is also abnormal for December.

That’s right around the point where propane freezes in its tank.
I remember a night in northern WI when it was -58 or -60F, back in the late ‘70’s I think. Propane froze in tanks. One didn’t stray too far from the stove as I recall.
It's Bush's fault.

I am sure that Gorbull will be donating his carbon credits to assist the area in this brief lull in the onslaught of Globull Warming.
If you have access to -10 or colder, try throwing water from a cup or glass. If things work right it will evaporate before any of it hits the ground.
Can’t imagine the torture of freezing to death.
We should thank God that our poorest live in a type of comfort too many Russians in the rurla areas could never dream about

Don’t worry the left will eventually get the oxymoron.
One of my kids studied meteorology. His comment on the warm winters we've had in the eastern US the past couple years was, "the cold air's got to go somewhere when it spills out of the Arctic. Lately, it's been winding up in Siberia."
“Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years”
when my friends and relatives anywhere in the U.S. in recent weeks seak of “record warm termeratures” in their area, I also remind them that if someone is having record warm temperatures somewhere, someone else is likely having record cool/cold temperatures in some other place
I will use this article to remind them of that, after recent news reports for New York City have been saying 2012 NY temperatures were the warmest in fifty years.
I remember one of my engineering profs saying if the Germans had 0W30 arctic oil like is available now, they might well have taken Moscow.

I guess “global warming” is a hard sell in Moscow.
“People just dont know how to take care of themselves and survive. They have become dependent on the government doing everything for them.”

I’ve been out in -25 degrees (F.) weather, in Chicago. I just cannot imagine how it would be 25 degrees colder.
Have a buddy that was stationed at Minot in the AF.
He would say they was not to run to keep from getting
frost bitten lungs breathing fast
Eagle? I'm in a high mountain valley north of Prince William Sound and east of Anchorage. We finally broke double digits on the plus side of zero today. Very little snowfall this winter.
