The weapons used in Fridays shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., were legally purchased and registered to Nancy Lanza, the mother of the gunman, Adam Lanza, two law enforcement officials told NBC News.

I’ve also read where the M1 Carbine was also intended as a replacement for the 1911A1 because it was cheaper to produce.
That is where we lost the moral battle.
That is what I do not understand. She had a son who was old enough to be living on his own. She apparently had him living there because he was emotionally disturbed in some way and she wanted to baby him due to his problems.
So why leave guns unlocked with a troubled child in the home?
Do a Google, news search for 'suicide" and 'shooting range'. I've read a dozen articles on them. Not uncommon.
No mention of the fact that he also stole her car, after killing her, to get to the school. Why is there no outrage and calling for “car control”?
Okay...I believe you...I just said I’d never heard of it. And, in this day and age, I’d think the anti-gun media wouldn’t miss a chance to spread the news.
Chinese guy enters school in gun free China a slices 22 children on the same day. If these nimrods want to talk lets talk the truth and come up with a solution instead of an agenda on the backs of our dead children, what do you say despicable political rat bastards?
The M1 Carbine was issued to squad leaders and officers as a lighter weapon along with the M1911. Smaller and lighter weapons were necessary for leaders, tankers, airborne, vehicle drivers etc. If you have a M1 Carbine made by the Rock-Ola juke box company in excellent condition, they are rare and sought by collectors.
They were also issued to Paratroopers. In both “War Baby and “War Baby comes home” you will see few pictures of Garands in the Pacific in the later war years - not just to officers and squad leaders.
The best M1 I have is a fully-correct Inland Paratrooper M1 seconded by a complete Winchester carbine with high-wood and I-hole stock. Both are top of the line...
Women in Switzerland. The second photo is traditionally dressed participants of the "Wyberschiesset" (women shooting contest).
It's always sex with you people.
I expect we'll soon see a new federal law (among many new federal laws) that prohibit gun possession in any household where any resident has been prescribed any SSRI/ADD type psychotropic drug or any resident has been under psychiatric care. Meaning if your kid is taking Adderall or Ritalin, no guns will be allowed in your home. Won't be surprised to see it include any prior misdemeanor drug or DUI conviction. Gun control is coming folks. You can count on it. This isn't going to quietly disappear after a week like so many of the other mass shootings did. Twenty dead kindergartners a week before Christmas changes things.
Remember “The Great Gun Show Massacre”?
Me neither.
You should pick up a Ruger Blackhawk in .30M1. Really fun and accurate.
How very misogynistic of you! I didn't know that firearms were "male". Tell that to mine!!!! You're an ass.
The guns were in her name so she probably bought them herself. Some women can buy guns without help from men.
It’s being reported that his brother said Adam was autistic. Another report claimed that the mother home schooled him for some of his high school years and also that the mother had retired in order to care for Adam
Many autistic people cannot live on their own.
It’s being reported that the parent’s divorce was amicable and that the mother was receiving close to 300K/year in alimony-a very generous sum.
My take is that the alimony payment was to take the place of the salary the mother gave up by retiring. It seems that the family was trying its best to take care of the son themselves rather than institutionalize him. If true, that’s noble, IMO.
Perhaps the mother’s interest in guns/shooting was because the son showed an interest in it and she was trying to do something with him that he liked. The father will shed light on this. Maybe he liked to shoot with his son when we came to visit him.
We’ll find out eventually. The father and probably brother know, but have no doubt been advised by lawyers not to say anything that would put themselves in jeopardy.
Will look it up. I have a Ruger Bisely Blackhawk in 45 Colt. It does well.
The M1 Carbine was also Audie Murphy’s preferred weapon.
