I’m thinking because guns get stolen, as in this case, wrestled free from the owner, that to fire they should be owner coded to fire. Would that be impossible?
That sure would have screwed up me using my brother's pistol to thwart a robbery, or my daughter using my pistol to kill a rattlesnake.
All of my family knows everyone else's weapons and will use them as required. Don't go throwing a wrench into the works because you are scared.

So, if an intruder invades my home while I am not there and my wife got to one of my weapons, it would be useless.
And, if I bought a used weapon, which I have, some entity would have to change the owner coding. Who would that entity be?
99.97%, probably not an exact number, but close, of the guns owned by Americans will never be misused in any way.
There is a common factor in all the recent mass shootings besides access to guns. Until we find out what is driving the shooters and address it the problem will remain.
