Mike Huckabee blames getting God out of classroom for shootings

Americans should blame their schools, and removal of God from the classroom, for Friday’s murders of schoolchildren in Connecticut, according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who is now a pundit and host on Fox News.

Huckabee did not mention guns, gun culture, or assault rifles in talking about the country’s latest mass killing, but said on Fox News:

“We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be surprised that schools would become places of carnage?”

Huckabee is a Baptist minister. As governor of Arkansas, he pardoned Maurice Clemmons, the Arkansas felon who went on to gun down in 2009 four Lakewood, Wash., police officers in cold blood. Clemmons was pardoned after he asked Huckabee to show compassion, vowed that he had changed his life since “the angel of death has visited and taken away my dear, sweet mother.”

Huckabee seemed to see church-state separation as responsible for the horrors Friday at an elementary school, where 18 grammar school pupils died.

“We’ve made it (school) a place where we don’t talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability — that we’re not going to have to be accountable to the police if they catch us, but one day we stand before, you know holy God in judgment,” said Huckabee. “If we don’t believe that, then we don’t fear that.”

As others were calling for a national discussion on guns, Huckabee said it is time to look upstairs.

“Maybe we ought to let (God) in on the front end, and we wouldn’t have to call Him up when it’s all said and done at the back end,” Huckabee argued.

God brings virtue into a society. Godlessness removes it.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

I started in 1948 in a Public School. We had a flag raising every morning. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer. Our Christmas plays had the baby Jesus in a manger etc etc.

Our pioneers held Town Meetings in the churches. It was there or the saloon.

The very same thought went through my mind. I also hear Mark Levin say something similar. Gun control will do nothing to stop this violence. Only the law-abiding will adhere to gun control laws. The libs are stupid as stupid can be.

When God is removed, then so is His protective hedge. It is a spiritual battle and the forces of evil have been unleashed.

There wasn’t any mention of god in the classroom when I started school 70 years ago!

I have made that point before Dale. I started public school in 1951 and graduated in 1963, in conservative southern Missouri and the only time I heard a prayer was at high school graduation, one prayer in 12 years.

It was not that school was hostile toward religion, I never heard anything negative about it. Parents that wanted their kids to learn about God took them to church.

Most of the lib sites are reporting Huckabee’s comments on this as “outrageous.”

I’m sure they’re outraged, as he is calling out their world view.

What Christian doesn’t believe this? The correlation between “God out of schools” and the demise of decent society is apparent.

Certainly a contributor.

But that wasn’t the case in the Amish school here in Nickel Mines, Pa., not far from me. Religious teachings are an integral part of their schooling. And yet, this same horror was visited upon their classroom.

The amount of violence that children are exposed to these days via video games puts them in another world. I have never had them in my home.

Many causes, turning away from God high among them.

You have it exactly right. Schools are not there to teach scripture. It is the complete absence of anything remotely related to religion or God that is notable. Religion is shunned. We went from Christmas plays to holiday plays to winter plays. We removed God from the pledge of allegiance (or removed the pledge in it’s entirety).

I am not an overly religious person, but it still provides an important moral foundation. It doesn’t even have to be Christian, or Jewish, or anything specific. It is a matter of including those core values in our society, whether it is schools, government, entertainment, etc.

The fact is guns have been around for hundreds of years now, and modern weapons for nearly a century, yet these mass shootings are a fairly new thing. Something else has changes, and it is a lack of moral thought in our society and a politically correct treatment of sick people that are given meds instead of being removed. Our people have become weak.

As I understand it, the shooter was autistic which means he had no sense of God.

We all like to say “One Nation, Under God,” like I used to listen to John Wayne beautifully saying our Pledge of Allegiance.

Actually, to be accurate, there is no comma between One Nation and Under God.

It is a good thing, I think, to say ONE NATION UNDER GOD in a complete phrase. Seems like it also gives more honor to God to say it that way.

When life is not sacred, then no life is sacred.

Post of the day - succinct and correct!

In the 1960's, the godless socialists/communists declared war on God and His morals/values...and this is the result of their "success".

Matthew 2:18/Jeremiah 31:15 “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

Bingo, I was thinking that there were more Partial Birth Abortions, ~150 x as many children killed in ‘regular’ abortions than this animal killed yesterday and no thought given to that by politicians.

The last thing they will ask, is did this murderer go to sunday school. Did he learn about Jesus. God. Love.

The NY talking heads dare not ask that he learned right from wrong from a bible.

1973, Roe V Wade, a choice, a killing, a lie.

Obama, our first leader to advocate tossing live newborn children into trash cans, stands before us crying.

Pathetic.

When I was growing up in the late 40s and 50s, we all said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. The flag hung on the wall next to the front blackboard in the place of prominence. Then the teacher read a verse from the Bible which was kept on the teacher's desk (usually from the Psalms or Proverbs). Then we said the Lord's Prayer. If there were special needs, the teacher would also pray for them. We centered on the important things first and then we continued our normal day. This was in a public school, mind you, and it happened every day all over this formerly great and honorable nation.

That all changed when the atheists and secularists sued (Abington vs. Schemp, 1963) and the Supreme Court assented to their lawsuit and took God out of our class rooms and the public square. The country has gone in a down hill direction ever since in every way.

I've seen the progression all my life. It is evident as well to anyone who cares to look and see it.

The awful fix we are in nowadays is no accident. Our national degeneration will not be cured by more gun control or stricter laws or tighter security.

When you forsake God, He gives you your wishes and lets you stew in your own folly and sin and that of others. That is what is happening in our national life as a nation. Our death spiral is getting steeper and accelerating.

The cure is simple and obvious, but not popular in many quarters because of Political Correctness: we must let the God (not just any God, but the real God, the God of the Bible!) back into the affairs and fabric of this country where He was honored for almost 200 years before we cast him out. If we don't, this burgeoning evil will never be stopped and cured. Our unrepentant sin will continue to impel us downward into ultimate destruction just like all the other previous doomed kingdoms of this earth. We will end up as slaves to our own sin and to others.

That is how the world works without God, and that is our future if we do not repent from our wicked ways and seek His face.

Agreed, along with absurd and totally restrictive regulations/laws that are unequally applied to the various parties who are "above the little people". I see government officials and their cronies at the top of this list.

Ayn Rand described this trend in Atlas Shrugged. The government keeps passing laws until you can't help but break one, then they own you. They're willing to "overlook" your "indiscretions" if you play ball (quid pro quo). Watching the RINOs purge conservatives that "won't play the game" is a good example of how corrupt things have become...

We are beyond hope for a reasonable solution. Our enemies see this weakness and are already operating within our borders. They pay to put their puppets into positions of power to facilitate their agendas, and are aiding those who also hate everything this country was founded on. Their goal is to loot, enslave, and destroy all who refuse to turn to their "progressive" way...

Prepare...
