NBC sportscaster Bob Costas used his weekly monologue on Sunday Night Football to discuss the fallout of the tragedy in Kansas City, urging viewers to move past the cliched coverage of the perspective gleaned from the news that linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and then himself Saturday morning.
Costas focused much of his monologue on a column by Fox Sports Jason Whitlock, which argued that current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy. Costas said that although he often doesnt agree with Whitlock, he found his argument to be spot on this time.

Or a bat, machete, golf club, rock, etc... People who kill? Kill. Simple as that. Costas is an Idiot MSM Tool.
I'm not sure, but crime statistics certainly indicate that.
If Christopher Krumm hadn’t had a knife and a bow and arrow, he, and his father, James Krumm, and his father’s girlfriend, Heidi Arnold, would still be alive.
Thank God he didn’t have a gun!
Family was a single mother with a boyfriend du jour and 3 kids (one was biracial). Of course, everyone was in tears over how the show was going to help them, poor victims.
Now what I'd like to see is these shows revisiting their projects a year later. I'm sure this particular family would have a new baby, a new boyfriend and the house a wreck again.
That’s the original foundation of “gun-control” laws in America - keeping guns out of the hands of blacks. Is Costas calling for a return to that? Most liberals I know are bigoted - they’re pro-black, but not in my neighborhood - types.
“If Bobs significant other had a gun, we might not have to listen to his drivel.”
Bob’s significant other IS Bob!
Bob Costas interviewed Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland for the MLB network and got on his case for his smoking habit but Jim wasn’t playing that game.
To me it seemed like Costas was trying to suggest that Leyland could be held in higher regard by the “community” if not for his smoking.
I still remember Jim McKay...after the PLO killed the 11 Israelis/Jews in Munich during the Olympics...his reporting of the event....and his only commentary was “They’re all gone”. He didn’t pander to the PLO.
I bet Costas would have
Just so unclassy of Costas to push his Gun Control Nazi agenda on a sports program....especially when NBC Sports Network has so many hunting shows on it
I listened to his pathetic little “mini-rant” - so devoid of reality. If the gun wouldn’t have been available the knife would have been. Quit blaming inanimate objects for psyco problems!
Costas should go to japan an learn Hari kari, also known as sepuku. Since it doesn’t contain any kind of gun powder, it should be considered safe.
All logging, and carpentry equipment should also be considered safe. He’s a numb skull.
If Belcher had not had a gun, he almost certainly would have strangled her. Perhaps we should stop letting athletes work out so much, they are much too strong.
“Disgusting use of a tragedy to make a pandering political statement...”
Yes; I’ve always refrained from chiming in on the football head injury debate, but now I’ll oppose football on the grounds that it is a danger to the second amendment.
Ban football outright; I don’t want it used as an excuse to take away my guns.
I remember siding with meathead and Gloria as a young man. I thought Archie was a putz. But now when I watch I find myself cheering for him. (Meathead sure turned out to be a prophetic nickname.)
OJ didn’t use a handgun. Sandusky didn’t use a handgun. Vick didn’t use a handgun.
A point that needs to be shouted out loudly. The murderer in this case was a professional football player-- a huge, muscular man who could easily have choked the life out the unfortunate young woman in seconds. Many woman who are murdered are in similar situations. They're usually much physically weaker than the male assaulting them, and are easy victims. Give them a gun, and the odds shift mightily.
in the minds of men like Belcher, a woman “taking” them for child support or “putting them on” child support is a serious offense, don’t ask me why.
Listening to Mike Lupica on Imus and he’s saying the same thing. Lefties abound around gun control!
