A Hungarian far-right politician urged the government to draw up lists of Jews who pose a “national security risk”, stirring outrage among Jewish leaders who saw echoes of fascist policies that led to the Holocaust.

Marton Gyongyosi, a leader of Hungary’s third-strongest political party Jobbik, said the list was necessary because of heightened tensions following the brief conflict in Gaza and should include members of parliament.

Opponents have condemned frequent anti-Semitic slurs and tough rhetoric against the Roma minority by Gyongyosi’s party as populist point scoring ahead of elections in 2014. …

There is a theory about anti-Semitism without Jews. Looney, I know, but you can probably google some articles on it.

ok, now I understand the reasons behind poast Trianon (after 1918) hungarian anti-Semitism -- to understand it, you need to understand the name "Béla Kun"

This guy was the leader of the Hungarian Soviet Republic which lasted from 1919 to 1920 when communists took over Hungary

What's Bela got to do with Hungarian anti-semitism? well, his father was of Jewish origin (and his mother was a former Calvinist) -- no one cared that he was educated at the Calvinist college etc., but they care that his original surname was Kohen

The revolution's leaders were all, except for one of Jewish ancestry -- Bela Kun, Tibor Szamuely, Jeno Landler -- key note: ancestry

The presence of these people identified as Jews (though in reality they were part or less of Jewish origin and none were practising, leave alone believing Jews) was a reason to create the notion of a Jewish-Bolshevik conspiracy (note that it was the same in Russia where Trostsky was of Jewish origin as was 15% of the Bolshevik party)

They also have the historical grievance of the fall of Budapest when Ibrahim Pasha, the vizier of Suleiman came to Buda, the city Jews (who were the only ones left in the city) came and begged for grace and handed the keys of the castle -- yes, this was a token gesture as the castle was already deserted, but it's still noted as "the ... gave the keys of Budapest to the Turks"

note though that the "White" leader Admiral Horthy refused to send Hungarian Jews to German death camps until the Germans occupied Hungary

Note also that there were large numbers of people of Jewish origin in the communist government of Matyas Rakosi (1948-1954), further exacerbating the myth of the Jewish-Bolshevik link

People would also need to note that the head of the secret police, Peter Gabor and the Premier Gero had jewish backgrounds yet had anti-semitic sentiments

So, this background of associating Jews with the evils of communism has fuelled modern-day anti-semitism in Hungary

I have a great idea: Israel can deport all those “palestinians” to Hungary. They can help Hungarian Nazis defend “western civilization” from the big bad Jews.

The members of Jobbik love Muslims. They say nothing about Muslim immigration to Europe and are happy when Islamsits kill Americans and Jews. As I said, they are traitors to Hungary and the West. The members of my father's extended family killed by the Nazis were better than these swine. (And these Jews were temporarily forced to flee Hungary by Kuhn's antisemitic communists).

true. I’m not justifying them, just pointing out what they are using to build up this non-sensical anti-semitism.

Quite frankly, as I said above, I can see the sentiment that Jobbik is playing into, but I don't see how anti-semitism makes any sense at all in modern-day Hungary. There are 12,000 Jews there (don't know how many are practising, but I'd bet most are not Hassidic and fit utterly in Hungarian society) and probably many have part Jewish blood.

These numbers are insignificant to bring up a fake conspiracy theory. They could just as well talk about Martians trying to destroy Hungary

The pro-Islamic outlook is another piece of stupidity by these people, though that's putting it mildly.

But what else can you expect from people who rant against a group of Hungarians (Hungarian Jews) who are hardly even visible and are a tiny fraction of society?
