Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal announced in a press conference Wednesday evening that Israel "has failed in all its goals" in Operation Defensive Pillar, following the cease fire announcement.
"After eight days, God stayed their hand from the people of Gaza, and they were compelled to submit to the conditions of the resistance," Mashaal said. "Israel has failed in all its goals," he told reporters in a Cairo hotel.
Mashaal also thanked ceasefire mediator Egypt, as well as Iran, which he said "had a role in arming" Hamas during the conflict.
Arabs in Gaza took to the streets to celebrate the start of the truce deal, firing into the air and chanting victory slogans, AFP reported.
The celebrations began shortly after the 9:00 p.m. deadline for the ceasefire to begin, agreed in a deal between Israel and Hamas that was announced in Egypt.
Heavy celebratory gunfire could be heard throughout Gaza, and residents also released fireworks into the night sky, where Israeli drones could still be buzzing heard overhead. .....

Any news about the ship loaded with rockets that had left Iran and was heading towards the Red Sea? It was mentioned here, in FR, a day or two ago.
Jimmah C has been strangely quiet on this matter in recent days. Is the old man going soft on his anti-semetic interpretations or has some sanity creeped back into his inner gizzards?
This war will continue until one of us are eliminated.
Will Egypt now get their $400 million now for a couple minute peace? My daughter says( reserve volunteer) said the rocket and mortar fire hasn’t stopped from Gazam and that was ten minutes ago so that’s what 2224 Israeli time?
Real peace? I am reminded of that scene in Independence Day
“can there be a peace between us?”
“No peace”
“What is you want us to do?”
“Die”
According to my psychic clock, he’s near death. Can’t think of any other reason the TODAY show wouldn’t have trotted him out by now.
Charles Krauthammer explained it best (on Special Report):
Its one of the reasons that Hamas started this all in the first place. And they did with a barrage of 150 rockets, over several days before Israel retaliated. Why would they want to do that? Because Hamass strategic aim right now is to change is to institutionalize the change in their relations, their power. Two sources of the power. Number one, the weaponry, the new weaponry. They can actually hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. They shot a rocket that landed outside of Jerusalem for the first time in 40 years that has happened. So their weaponry is now sophisticated. Its stronger. But they also want to translate the new strategic relation by the change of the neighborhood. Turkey, which is a very strong pro-Israel ally for 60 years is now run by a moderate Islamist, who is extremely anti-Israel. He calls Israel a terrorist state today. Egypt is run by the Brotherhood, which as you know is the mother organization of Hamas, which is simply the Palestinian wing of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. And lastly, the Emir of Qatar dropped in a month ago and he left behind half a billion dollars. So theres are an array of countries. What is Hamas trying to do? It wants to translate the increase in strength to new agreements. Its demands are now for the cease-fire that Israel agrees not to attack again, to allow Hamas to build up its weaponry, and to pledge not to hit any Hamas leaders. And not to hit in the future any Hamas weapons or missiles, which means it would have a truce, it never will have a peace. It will have a truce; its called a hoodna. During which they will become extremely strong, develop hundreds of thousands of rockets that can hit Israel. Can hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and put 80 percent of Israel under its rockets. Israel will never agree to that. That is slow suicide. So, as long as Hamas is demanding that the offensive will continue. And if it keeps demanding it, as we heard David Lee Miller report beyond a day or two, there will be a ground invasion.
“Israel Announces Ceasefire”
Why am I not surprised? Israel’s favorite game must be hokey pokey. They talk tough, attack Hamas a little bit and then pull out just when they are about to win.
Yes, Virginia, there REALLY ARE people stupid enough to believe that the loss of life, morality, and wealth is "good".
Do they believe they’ve mowed down all the rocketeers that are at least an immediate danger?
Stinks that they can’t administer a fuller beatdown to the responsible parties. Still they are forced into playing world politics. For now.
All those Gazans sent to a virginful paradise. Aren’t ya ENVIOUS???
“Do they believe theyve mowed down all the rocketeers that are at least an immediate danger?”
New ones will quickly take their place. Hamas and Hezbollah now knows the limits of Iron Dome and will be ready for a real coordinated attack if Israel decides it has to take out Iran’s nukes.
EXACTLY RIGHT!
someday they will have to take back that miserable little strip of land, if only to stop the continuous smuggling of deadly weapons designed to kill Israelis
Hillary and Obama have saved the terrorists again, so that ... they will now live to fight another day, meaning (according to the Koran) when they are armed with even more deadly weapons so they can “win” at their murderous aggression
The Dome worked awfully well, to tell the truth; and Israel has more hellfire than just what it dished out this past week. Gazans thinking “oh, this is it” will get rude surprises.
She threatened to flash him!

I just got a wiff of the stuff. Darrr. Obama is our saviour. Hurricane Sandy was all Bush’s fault. If only he had signed Kyoto, hurricanes would have stopped happening. That they didn’t is proof that global warming exists. Here, Obama. Redistribute my wealth. I don’t need it. Darrr.

It’s very expensive and Hamas knows it can grind Israel’s economy to a halt at any time. They didn’t even coordinate the attack with Hezbollah in the north.
