Citing a longstanding battle with upper management over journalistic practices at their Bangor TV stations, news co-anchors Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio announced their resignations at the end of Tuesdays 6 p.m. newscast.
Michaels and Consiglio, who have a combined 12½ years service at WVII (Channel 7) and sister station WFVX (Channel 22), shocked staff members and viewers with their joint resignations Tuesday evening.
I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasnt able to do that, said Consiglio, a northeastern Connecticut native who broke in with WVII as a sports reporter in April 2006.
Not everyone was shocked by the on-air resignations.
No, that was unfortunate, but not unexpected, said Mike Palmer, WVII/WFVX vice president and general manager. Well hire experienced people to fill these positions sooner rather than later.
Neither reporter had told anyone of their decisions before Tuesdays newscast.

Neither Michaels nor Consiglio would say what specific political leaning they were expected to adopt.
Consiglio, who also was executive producer, said the balanced journalistic approach they use for all their stories was sometimes frowned upon.
In my opinion, journalists who adhere to the principles of fairness and unbiased reporting deserve respect and support, regardless of whatever their own personal political views might be. Bravo to these two.
I'd have an iota of respect for the US news media in general if this were to happen more often.
Good for them. I hope they remain honest - although it will be VERY hard to find another journalism job that tolerates integrity.
Perhaps they were being asked to knock off the left-wing bias? There’s nothing in the article that makes it clear.
These are *journalists* - I’m not going to assume that they have integrity just because they say they do.
I'm not so sure. Most TV stations have a liberal bias. I'd assume one in Maine would be lib by default. Maybe the new management was trying to make them more "fair and balanced", and the anchors took this as a hard move to the right?
Not if they expect to ever get another job.
Then again, they would actually be DOING their job if they reported it- which they should have done ON-AIR as they were leaving
Maybe, but IMO if that were true then, being liberals, they wouldn’t be able to keep themselves from saying so.
I think it depends on the viewers. I live in a pretty conservative area of SC and our news is pretty conservative. They often show stories of local churches with people praising God and even talking about Jesus. You just wouldn’t see that in places like So. Fla. where I am from.
"I'm as mad as Hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"
Most “journalists” consider the truth to have a conservative bias, so I’ll withold my opinion on these two.
FWIW, WVII is an ABC affiliate, WFVX is Fox.
Oh, if they did anything before, it should be easy enough to figure out.
The last thng a news agency wants is an honest Journalist.
They would rather have the Chris Mathews, Rachel Maddow type.
You know freaks who get a tingle when they speak of the Muslim in the WH.
The news media is not news, it is Communist propaganda.
Liberal. Known for.
The outlet is a Fox affiliate.

Hey, Aiken County resident saying Hello!
The main thing I got out of the article was that the station had become a micro-managed hell. The "bias" angle is probably only a small part of the story. I work in a similar situation. It's not a news company, but a company that has been around for about 70 years. The owner is getting up in age and is in the process of turning the place over to his son, who would fit in well with this TV station. He's an arrogant idiot who runs the company like Caligula.

You’re right!
My first instinct was that they were being urged by management to pull for Dems but we are talking about news anchors after all. It’s just as likely they were the ones shilling hard for progressive crap and were being asked to tone it down a little.
I can really see it happening either way.
Quit beating around the bush and lay it all on the table. Now is their chance. Strike while the iron is hot.
