The United States on Tuesday recognized the newly formed coalition of Syrian rebel groups as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. Speaking to reporters, State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters that as far as the U.S. was concerned, the rebel coalition group does reflect the Syrian people... that diverse group of Syrian people. We now have a structure in place that can prepare for a political transition, but... we're looking for it to still establish the types of technical committees that will allow us to make sure our assistance gets to the right places.
With that, Toner stopped short of calling the group, officially named The Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, a government in exile. The rebel groups declared Sunday that they would work together to unseat Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Analysts said that the groups agreed to form the coalition, despite having different agendas, in order to encourage greater international pressure on Assad, and to make it easier for the rebel groups to receive aid. Going even further than the U.S. Tuesday was France, which, French President Francois Hollande said, would be considered by Paris as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people in essence, a government in exile. If more countries do so as well, Hollande said, France will consider sending weapons to the group.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Run, Forrest! Run!
America needs to stop supporting radical Sunnis.
We’re at fool me twice now.
The French are clueless as always.Don’t they know or even care who these people are?
Great US supporting al queada instead of a dictator, why support either one?
Obama’s U. S. and France, who could have seen this coming?
Gack!
Support both, and keep them busy killing each other, rather than US ambassadors.
“Stupids!”
It is always interesting to read different reports on what Hillary Clinton is doing in the middle east. Most especially since our JonStewart media is blood-hounding a sexcapade story.
Many Americans think that “DEMOCRACY” is a transcendent value in and of itself. Democracy sinmply gives expression of the will of the people, for good or ill. For instance, if a given society approves of cannabilism, then the democratic government will allow the processing and distribution of human flesh.
The Americans and French are going to support a democracy tht reflects 7th Century Barbarism. Democracy is not always a good thing.
Romney echoed the view of the brain trust that lost him the election. It would have been more productive for him to say that he viewed events in the Mid East with great caution, instead of wanting to intervene more aggressively than Obama. Of course, he was strait-jacketed by the views of aggressive interventionists like Lindsay Graham and John McCain, and the things he said during the primaries. However, he could have issued a mea culpa, and changed his mind, given what we’ve seen since then, ranging from Islamists getting super-majorities and events like the Libyan consulate attack.
Thought that was why we were going to get Romney. Cause he could go balls out in Syria. Even get lots of boots on the ground. Now they think they can double down on stupid and still beat Assad.
Democracy: 2 wolves and sheep have vote on lunch, but sheep is protected by bill of rights, so they can’t eat him.
Demoncracy: 2 wolves and sheep have vote on lunch, and eat the sheep. Then they eat each other.
Yes, the Bill of Rights. And ours was a Republic which filtered the rampant emotions of the mob and gave us continuity. Alas, Harvard professors versed in 19th Century German Idealism (Kant, Hegel, Marx)thought they were intellectually superior to the Founders and the intellectual heritage of Locke, et al. Harvard lad Teddy Roosevelt thought he was very clever; and Woodrow Wilson thought he should be Benevolent Dictator for Life.
Progressivism is NOT American. It’s Continental European and we are losing the battle, having won the wars—all of them.
The Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, thanks Eleutheria5.
