Fiscal Cliff Deal? Don’t Hold Your Breath [House GOP "more conservative" than last session?]
Time ^ | 11/12/12 | Massimo Calabresi

Barack Obama and John Boehner traded opening bids Friday in negotiations over the fiscal cliff. With talks scheduled for the White House later this week and members of Congress back in town, Washington is abuzz with the possibility of a deal. Don’t bet on it.

Obama and Boehner drew the outlines of a compromise less in what they said than in what they didn’t say. The two men failed to reach a deal in 2011 because they couldn’t agree on raising tax rates for the rich. Now they are leaving open the possibility of avoiding the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts set to kick in Jan. 1 by closing tax loopholes instead.

Well, consider the source: liberal TIME. But the writer does seem to acknowledge Obama's failure to lead on this critical issue.

Better a deal on this than on immigration.

I do believe congress is a bit more conservative. The tea partiers we elected in 2010 are out of the “freshman” category and no longer firmly under the boot of leadership.

GOOD! The GOP should do nothing. Tell the Rats that the GOP will not assist in the crash of this nation.

Give America a crash course in economics. Pass it all. The minions will be rioting in the street when the Marxist rats can’t deliver.

“closing loopholes” means ditching mortgage and other largely middle class deductions

that is a tax hike

it will be devastating and will be blamed on the GOP in time to lose the House in 2014

what a deal

...raising tax rates for the rich.

To Obama and Boehner that means raising taxes on everyone with a job.

The first deal that needs to be reached is to replace Captain Caveman as Speaker.

[House GOP “more conservative” than last session?]

PLEASE! Don’t use the word “conservative” and GOP in the same sentence. There is no relation to each other.

....by closing tax loopholes instead....

Have we lost our collective minds?

How the hell do you think our politicians got rich in office?

Answer: They made themselves “tax loopholes” and then used them for themselves while the average working slob was unable to get these “freebies” due to the fact that all of their income was spent on things like food, lodging and transportation.......not special investments designed by the Congress to enrich themselves.

It’s comparable to asking Obama parasites to give back their “Obama phones.”

It’s not going to happen..........ever!

Yep. It’s Boehner’s new attempt at cover for being ‘bipartisan’.

I hope that we will jump over the cliff, but I think that Boehner will just bend over and give Zero what he wants.

He'll manage it without even getting credit from the MSM for giving Zero everything that he wants, so when we plunge into the abyss after avoiding the relatively small fiscal cliff, the Republicans will take the blame.

Guys, remember that it was the Dems that extended the Bush Tax rates in 2010. This always forgotten in the discussion. Obama could have got absolutely everything he wanted 2 years ago, instead he stopped it cold and spent the last 2 years saying, “The GOP won’t go along with me.” It worked obviously. Now, here we are today. My guess is nothing gets resolved in the negotiations (we could offer everything and anything it will be rejected), we go over the fiscal cliff (so called) and the real game is who gets the blame. Mark my words.

Vote “present”,

Every goper should say, “in recognition of president 0bama’s re-election, I vote ‘present’”.

If I were Boehner, I would be playing the “Compromiser” role with the Democrats. Gingrich was heavily demonized for fighting the Democrats. The Dems and their minions want a boogeyman with a face.
Boehner can talk compromise all he wants but if the Repubs don’t go along with it, it is meaningless.

Conservatives are killing themselves in their war against illegal immigration. I’ve said before and I’ll continue to believe that illegal immigration is not the problem - the welfare state’s extension of benefits to illegal immigrants is the problem. Those benefits act as a beacon, calling poor minorities across the border from Mexico. What do we expect them to do when we’ve basically placed a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

We can offer a compromise on this issue. We should agree to some form of amnesty for all illegal immigrants currently here, on the following conditions:

1. The border is closed to prevent further illegal immigration.

2. A federal law is passed that makes it a crime to extend benefits, such as unemployment and welfare payments, to any immigrant who is not documented to have been in the United States for at least 3 years prior to its passage, and to any future illegal immigrant.

3. An amendment to the Constitution is passed that clarifies that natural US citizenship is only automatically conferred on those born on US soil to US citizen parents, or to US citizen parents temporarily overseas at the time of the birth. In other words, no more anchor babies.

In exchange for those things, we should be willing to offer amnesty and a path to citizenship to those current illegal immigrants who have been here for at least 3 years, if they can prove that they have been otherwise responsible residents of this country during that time (i.e. no arrests, paid their bills, etc.). All will have to register and prove their status. The path to citizenship can not be a shortcut to existing citizenship procedures.
