and continue with "They have to dump Evangelicals", "They have to embrace evangelicals","They have to become more fiscally liberal", "No, they have to be truly fiscally conservative", "They'll never win the presidency again and the demographics have doomed them", take a look at the numbers.
As of right now, only 2,841,121 votes separate the two. That's 2 percentage points, 2 percentage points of the total. Hardly an insurmountable hurdle in future elections. That relatively small number is not an indication that America has turned against the GOP and is convincingly on the side of becoming a Western European style nanny state. In a growing country, Obama has yet to match Bush's vote total from 2004. I know more votes are being counted, but Obama is way off his 2008 pace.
Romney lost the swing states he needed by a combined 373,141 votes. Ohio -100,142 Florida -47,016 Virginia -112,884 Colorado -113,099
A mere 373,200 votes could have the Dems singing the same song the GOP is singing today. And they'd be frustrated over the loss of 9 million votes for Obama as of now.

WRONG! Instead, millions of people tuned in. FINALLY! Someone who thinks like them!
The GOP is forgetting real America. They think if they go "RUSH", "people will get angry and turn them off".
They believe this because they have no idea what's going on outside the beltway. A poll here, and a poll there gives them their illusion of "reality. "
The GOP is dieing because there's an entire nation waiting for someone to finally come along and actually speak out and represent them.
Today, we have far left wing socialists/ communists, or too far to the left wing Republicans. That's it. There are no politicians representing real, hard working American taxpayers - the slave force, those who are forced to support it all.
Greater America is suffering while they await their Moses - one who will free the tax slaves , so they can FINALLY say "Free, free, free at last. Thank God all mighty we're free at last. "
The big difference now is that there is a likely economic catastrophe looming, particularly for the small business sector, the completion of the healthcare takeover, looting the citizens with artificially low interest rates, printing money and inflation, and the likely finishing touches on dismantling the Constitution.
The Democrats have almost run the table on the safeguards that keep us free and strong. I really don’t see anything much standing in their way now.
There will be no reboumd our chance came and went, the GOP has no balls, ignors the obvious, the moron party is dead, as Boehner is waving the white flag.
Yep. Popular vote was split right down the middle. Going left or "changeing to a more socialist aganda" is NOT going to get them more voters. In fact, middle America is going to flee from them even more than it already has.
And here’s the funny thing. Basically 10M people fewer turnout out to vote, compared to 2008. But looking over the exit polling, there’s no clear “group” that stayed home.
Evangelicals are getting blamed, but they represented a higher percentage of the electorate in 2012 than in 2008 (though within the MOE), and were pretty much the most “Romney” crosstab of all, outside of self-identified Republicans. Even more so than Mormons (but again, inside the MOE on that).
With a few top-line exceptions (Democrats were more for Obama in 2012 than in 2008, Republicans likewise for Romney over McCain, and Romney +5 with independents compared to McCain’s -8), there wasn’t a whole lot of shift in the various subgroups as to support.
So the answer really isn’t as simple as “we needed more from group X”, because both sides can say that about groups A-Z. The real question is why 10M people stayed home and what would have gotten the right portion of them to the polls?
IMO the successful Asian-American demographic is inclined to follow whatever also motivates the successful Jewish vote:
1) They believe in their collective intellectual superiority, which also almost by definition means they believe in the relative intellectual inferiority of other groups.
2) Given that, they don’t think all groups can succeed on a level playing field.
3) Therefore, they think the only way for racially and ethnically based resentment not to endanger their own relatively greater success is to buy off the less fortunate groups with government-provided and liberally-justified benefits.
4) Fortunately for them, the costs of this can be spread across the entire tax-paying populace, though they as a successful minority are prime beneficiaries.
The first three of the four have been straight out detailed to me by successful Jews. I think it is easy for Asians to think the same way, even if not quite fully consciously.
It more basic then that. 49% of the populace wants a free ride. They will vote so as to continue that free ride.
And yet we are to believe that its impossible that such numbers could be attributed to fraud?
I'm sorry folks, but I believe we have openly seen the tip of a large Democrat fraud iceberg. When you add up the direct impact of such activities and the secondary effect on voter turnout and enthusiasm, it should be very clear that we need to seriously address the voter fraud problem.
I find it very suspect that presidential election results have been so evenly divided as of late. Is it really reasonable for it to be so close, over and over again?
Scoff at conspiracy theories if you like, but Obambi didn't get to be a political powerhouse in Chicago because he plays fair. Something is very suspect, in my mind.
I agree 100%. Not as if people didn’t either suspect or see this coming. Nothing will be done - yelled at to take our sour grapes and forward on.
That was it.
They're tax slaves. They KNOW not one politician is going to come out and cut the social programs and tell the freeloaders to get out and get their own jobs so the tax slaves could once again enjoy the fruits of their own labor.
The democrats tax, and the republicans toss the slaves a nice, new shiny coin once in awhile. They expect the filthy slaves to celebrate and sing joyous songs to their gracious Republican leaders.
Gee, the Republicans just can't figure out why no one bothers to vote for them anymore. "Why, the far left wing media must be right! We've got to go left and tax these people more! That should make them come out and vote for us again!". (DUH!!!)
Yesterday was a very, very difficult day for me, personally, professionally and financially. I felt exceptionally low, and ready to give up on everything except God and my family. And to my shame, my faith was not as strong as it should have been either.
But it's time to stop p*ssing and moaning. We lost. It hurts. And the country will suffer.
But the game is not over, irretrievably and forever. We keep working and fighting, and being good Americans in our daily lives.
Yes, I have told my family that taxes will go up, prices will go up, and wages will go way down if there is work at all.
But I had myself a huge pity party yesterday, and am now trying to act like a grown up.
There will always be millions of us who believe in the Constitution and our values. We may have to suffer and not be whiners, for a time. Maybe the country is on the way down, with no hope. But what a shame it would be if we all curled up into a ball and gave up.
Fight the good fight - keep true to our ideals.
And yes, remember what happened to the Democrats (and the Republicans) after the 2004 defeat.
Whether people like me will have a home in the Republican party is not the issue. I honestly don’t know. But I am not going to spend every day thinking all is lost.
I will do what I can, and stay true to my principles. And the rest is in God's hands.
As a pep talk, it may be long on words and short on substance,. But I am done whining.
Priebus makes Michael Steele look like Lee Atwater. Never was there a weaker, more ineffectual RNC chair — and that includes the colorless Ed Gillespee and the guy who succeeded Lee (forgot his name)
Democrats had to defend 24 Senate seats...a golden opportunity for the GOP to gain and get Reed out of there and they came away +2.
Fire Priebus already
Lurker,
I have always wondered why Jews vote democrat all the time and I think I found the answer in your post. Great post!
I remember one pundit saying that whichever party wins this election will be out of power for a long time afterwards, because the fiscal bomb is going to go off soon no matter what.
We are in deep trouble, but we need to keep fighting the good fight. Even if the worst happens, and we don’t see another free republic (pun intended) rise in the world for hundreds of years, we have to keep the dream alive and show our posterity that some people still cared about liberty, even in the age of Chavez, Putin, A-jad (Iran) and Obama,.
“...makes Michael Steele look like Lee Atwater.” Ha ha.
It's not that the margin was so slim, it's that they lost their own wave elections. If the GOP couldn't win with an incumbent with 8% unemployment and a bad economy, then how can they win. If they can't win when everything's in their favor, how can they win?
I highly doubt the Dems have another Obama on their bench. Talking campaigning only here, not governing, but Bush was a GREAT campaigner, and no one running last time on the GOP side was even in the same ballpark. Candidates that win have sort of an “it” factor style. It is the thing that makes one side despise them, and one side almost “love” them.
Reagan had “it”, Bush the first did not. He benefited from Reagan popularity and running against Dukakis. Clinton had it (though I know he might have lost without Perot...so debate away), Gore did not. W Bush had it (and still almost last the first time), McCain/Romney did not. Obama had it, Biden doesn’t, and I don’t THINK Hillary has it....who does?....on either side? Not Jeb, Not Newt, not Cory Booker. I really don’t think Paul Ryan has it. Cuomo doesn’t. Santorum doesn’t. Who?
Rubio? Rand Paul? Palin? Remains to be seen. Who on the Dem side? No one saw Obama coming until 4-5 years before he won.
Sometimes it is more of a gut feeling rather than a scientific analysis.
I heartily agree. Two million votes (allegedly!) out of this entire nation are the only difference. We are not a socialist minded nation.
We are a divided nation.
The problem is not a lack of conservative voters. The problem is that the Karl Roves who run the party keep shooting themselves in the foot and turning away their base.
Again and again and again.
And one day after this disastrous election, they are continuing to come up with all the wrong answers and ignore the problems that are staring them in the face.
