Those of us who thought U.N election observers would be completely worthless or unhelpful today, were wrong. U.N. observers are expressing their surprise at how much trust Americans put into the election system without verification and cannot believe Voter I.D. isn't a national requirement to vote.
"It's an incredible system," said Nuri K. Elabbar, who traveled to the United States along with election officials from more than 60 countries to observe today's presidential elections as part of a program run by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). Your humble Cable guy visited polling places with some of the international officials this morning. Most of them agreed that in their countries, such an open voting system simply would not work.
The most often noted difference between American elections among the visitors was that in most U.S. states, voters need no identification. Voters can also vote by mail, sometimes online, and there's often no way to know if one person has voted several times under different names, unlike in some Arab countries, where voters ink their fingers when casting their ballots.
The international visitors also noted that there's no police at U.S. polling stations. In foreign countries, police at polling places are viewed as signs of security; in the United States they are sometimes seen as intimidating.
As we all know by now, those opposed to an identification requirement at the polls believe Voter I.D. laws disenfranchise minority voters. As I observed earlier today when I voted in Virgnina, a state with a Voter I.D. requirement, minorities in line with me had zero issues complying with the law and they all had photo I.D. Also, 75 percent of registered voters believe Voter I.D. should be required at the polls.
While the Obama Justice Department, led by Attorney General Eric Holder, uses its authority to block some state voter ID laws (Texas), and investigate others (Pennsylvania), a newly-released poll shows overwhelming public support for laws requiring voters to present identification before casting a ballot. That support crosses party lines, racial lines, economic lines, educational lines, and just about every other line in the electorate at large.
In the survey, the Washington Post asked, In your view, should voters in the United States be required to show official, government-issued photo identification such as a drivers license when they cast ballots on election day, or shouldnt they have to do this? Among all adults, 74 percent said voters should present ID, versus 23 percent who said they should not. Among registered voters, the numbers were 75 percent to 23 percent.
When something has the support of 75 percent of the voters, plus the approval of the Supreme Court, which by a six-to-three vote in 2008 upheld Indianas voter ID law, one might think the Justice Department would give up trying to stop it.
Let's not look to the UN for moral authority.
Incredible is right.
Ain’t that somethin’?! We don’t require ID’s, or citizenship, or a pulse either!
Ain’t that somethin’?! We don’t require ID’s, or citizenship, or a pulse either!
It seemed like an outrage that these foreigners were being permitted to observe our elections but now it is clear that we are unable to enforce our own voting laws, so maybe we do need outside help (pardon me now while I go puke).
I would not have agreed to allow UN meddling in US affairs.
The UN has become a justification and popularity club for despots. If the UN colludes to support their evil, then the evil has somehow been redefined as ‘good’, in a Newspeak sort of way. That’s why the UN ALWAYS condemns Israel, but NEVER condemns the despotic Islamic regimes. Countries like China , Iran, and Libya sit on committees lecturing the western democracies about human rights, ElBaradei gives covert aid to Islamic WMD programs, and ‘climate change’ is invoked to support a world wide ‘tax’ and power grab. Ever since the ‘food for oil’ (Iraq) and ‘humanitarian aid in return for discontinuation of nuclear program’ (N. Korea) scandals under Kofi Anan, I could care less what the lying tyrants preach to the few remaining free peoples of the world.
I have friends and business acquaintances from India and other developing countries who have long expressed this same astonishment. At least they do the purple finger thing over there.
it;s just common sense and seems they have more tan the Dems who asked them to come here.
When in FL there were lines and people were handed a ballot to fill in while in line and then just drop it off at the box is simple stuid and no wonder FL is close again and yes it happened in the SE part of the state where it is lDem controlled.
Voting my mail, no photo ID is plain stupid, we have no idea who is voting.
Why is there not a system like the drivers licence where as soon as you vote it scans your ID and then puts you down in the country as voted thus no more voting twice like the snow birds do from the north in my state.
Why not have this system and stop voting by mail, I know a couple near me who vote absentee and yet live right around the corner, get up and vote ,
We need a national database allowing other states to know if joe Bloggs voted in hsi state and if he votes in another then he is flagged and a cop shoudl be there at every station who can arrest him.
Having no photo ID is plain stupid and common sense but alas that woudl stop their voter fraud and illegals or even poll workers who give out more than one ballot to certain voters they know.
everyone shoudl show ID, common sense tells us that we have to know who is voting and for them to not vote again and that they are legal.
Early voting , why? election day should be election DAY, if you can;t make the effort then you have no business voting anyway.
voting by mail has to be one of the dumbest things ever going.
We have no idea who is voting that ballot, no idea what so ever.
Only military and those overseas should vote by mail and tey shoudl still show their ID to the consulate for ex pats.
Then get a national system and as soon as you vote you vote is ten informing all the states and thus no more voting twice.
What is the point of photo ID if you get given a ballot standing in line , not showing ID and thne dropping it off in a box like what happened in south FL YET AGAIN and in aDem controlled county YET AGAIN
Not that is funny!
I love it!
Here in MN, voter ID was voted down as a Constitutional amendment. NO CHANCE of any meaningful ID requrirements now that we have a rat legislature, rat governor, rat SOS, and rat AG.
I’d not be surprised if they increase the number of people one person can “vouch” for at one time from 13 to 300.
lets face it the country is not united no matter how many times people say united states.
Half the country want normal marriage, normal families, photoID, laws on immigration, stop wasteful spending etc.
The other half want a socialist country want homosexuals, cross dresser, no laws for immigration, punish those who work hard and get rich.
Maybe it is time to go into two countires and those who want to move can within a period of time.
After that if te likes of wasserman from NY but now here inFL wants her socialist country then she can go back home to NY and run there.
I totally agree...One voting day..If you can’t make it, tough!!! That is YOUR responsibility....
One government issued Voter ID Card...If you ain’t got, you don’t vote...It has a serial# that is fed into the computer when you show up...NO DUPLICATES...
This Voter ID Card I suggest is only good for ONE election...You have to re-register each separate Federal election.....
In our state you have about 3 weeks to MAIL IN or deliver your ballot....I watched on Tuesday as people were dropping off ballots at the VERY LAST MINUTE. One gal didn’t make it (they do shut down at 8pm) and was NOT happy....
They know how elections can be stolen. They know that Democrats steal elections. They will not chastise the Democrats for stealing elections.
They will keep voter ID laws because they do not want Democrats stealing elections in their nations.
I would’ve had to laugh in her face...*L* It is an individual’s responsibility to vote ON-TIME..If they don’t, tough sh*t...
