The Republican Party died last night.
Somewhere in the suburbs of Cleveland, on the shore of Lake Erie, in the decisions of some suburban voters, the Republican Party stopped being a nationally viable political organization.
Oh, it will continue to exist.
But it will likely never again truly contest for the presidency. The nation has changed, the values have been replaced, the demographics are different.
The demographics are insurmountable.
Last night was a tipping point, a dance on a razors edge, and it went the other way. What was undoable last night will become increasingly impossible with each passing year. The margins will grow, the base will shrink, the tide will turn and the day will pass.
The Republican Party died last night.
Oh, it will continue to exist.
There will be the name and the elephants, but nationally, conservatism is playing against an impossibly stacked deck.
The nation had a clear choice. Each party ran candidates who were true to type. The Republicans ran conservatives and the Democrats ran liberals and it was a rout. Nothing changed except that Republicans got rebuffed across the board.
America wants Democrat.
More specifically, America wants liberal. It wants an activist, empowered government, imposing fairness and supporting entitlement.
Thats what America wants.
At least half of it wants that. Half and a tiny bit more.
And the inexorably shifting demographics of the nation ensure that that tiny bit more will grow steadily, cementing the liberal majority and creating an electoral impossibility of replacing it.
Last night was the last chance.
It was the last chance to gain a last national electoral victory over the Democratic coalition Latinos, blacks, gays, feminists, trade unionists, government employees and welfare beneficiaries. The last chance to let a Republican president advocate the conservative, constitutional principles upon which American society was built.
But America said, No, thanks.
The majority preferred more of the last four years to anything Mitt Romney and the Republicans were offering.
The constituent communities of that majority are only going to grow in size and prominence in American society. They are going to increasingly dominate our society and politics.
Four years from now, more of the older conservative voters will be dead, and more of the younger liberal voters will be registered to vote. The Latino community, essentially co-opted by the Democrats into an aggrieved permanent minority status, will, like black voters, be larger and more Democrat. Four years from now, the cultural shift away from traditional values will be more advanced, thanks to more brainwashing by school teachers and sitcoms.
Those members of our society who typically identify with the Democratic Party are increasing. Those members of our society who typically identify with the Republican Party are shrinking.
You do the math.
Certain, Republicans will keep running. And some of them, no doubt, will win. But they will be a different sort of Republican.
They will not be conservative. Certainly not socially or morally conservative.
They will bend over backwards to avoid the principles of moral conservatism, so as to not disrespect a social norm.
They will be Democrat-lite.
Or they will not win.
Last night was our best chance.
And America chose the other team.
Almost $3 billion was spent on the presidential campaign. Untold tens of millions of dollars were spent on congressional campaigns across the country. And nothing changed.
Obama is still in the White House. The Democrats still control the Senate. Republicans still control the House of Representatives. The pundits say America voted to break the grid lock, that it voted to demand team work. It did no such thing. It voted to maintain the status quo.
So we have gone on a long, painful and expensive national journey, and it has left us exactly where we started.
A couple of House seats this way, a couple of Senate seats that way, and Obama on top of the whole thing.
That isnt change, that is business as usual.
Conservatism has become a regional philosophy, the Republican Party a regional party. It will win governorships, it will win seats in the House or Senate, but it will essentially be a phenomenon of the South and Midwest.
Where traditional values endure and dwindle, the Republican Party will still be relevant.
But those places will shrink and shrivel. And each year, the gap between those who support conservatism and the number needed to win a national victory will grow.
Last night was conservatisms last stand.
And it lost.
The Republican Party died last night.
The American Party (1856) has already come forward and failed. The American Independent Party (1968) ditto. Been there done that, and liberalism marches on. Ronald Reagan said he would slow the advance; then he put Sandra Day O’Connor up there to reject his own programs.
.
The Republican Party died last night and there will be no resurrection. The socialists have a firm grip on the mechanics of our government and are loading up their base for all future elections. I never will see a Republican president in my lifetime.
Very sad but true epitaphs. It is hard for me this morning to accept the fact that Amerika is now officially one nation under socialist-marxist-islamic government as opposed to one nation under God. In 2008 America made a very stupid move by electing a communist agitator & muslim as our president, and over 50% of the voters last night heartedly re-affirmed that decision by rewarding the communist muslim pig 0bama with another 4 years. We (Christians, conservatives, patriots) are now in the minority as a reviled, scorned & persecuted minority with no protected class designation.
God forgive our nation and give us strength to endure to the end!
I woke depressed that the nightmare last night is now our reality. Thanks for throwing the cold water/wake up call. I think I will print your post and put it on my computer, next to this — Jeremiah 29:11.
I am not saying Hispanics are currently inclined to vote GOP. However, they DO have a strong emphasis on family, and MANY believe in hard work and saving. The GOP cannot win without them, and we cannot pander to them and still hold true to conservatism - so that means we need to reach out to Hispanics WITH STRONG, CONSERVATIVE VALUES AND ARGUMENTS.
Or give up and shoot ourselves. I prefer Door #1.
And they’ll change again. Twice in the last 14 years election results have caused analysts to say that one party now had a “permanent majority” that would last at least 20 years, first time for the Dems and 4 years later for the GOP. The reality is the demographic don’t really change that much. There’s about 1/3 that are fairly hard right, 1/3 hard left, and the mushy middle. Sometimes the mushy middle look like they’ve changed character and are hard leaning in one direction, but in relatively short order they revert to form and hate the guys in charge.
It doesn't matter if the minorities are out voting us.
I mean they re-elected a guy who has been in rehab for the past six months, for chrissakes.
And good use of down stream family values initiatives was Roves trick to get a bunch of those same minorities to give the Bush his second term. They’ll change back.
Obama (his campaign, even— not a PAC) ran non-stop Richard Mourdock-Mitt Romney radio ads about abortion and rape. It killed the GOP here.
Last night’s award for “ON THE HEAD IN FEWEST WORDS” went to Advil1000.
Today’s goes to you for this EXCELLENT and CONCISE wrap up of what happened last night.
I was hoping that the PRODUCER segment of the US Society being relentlessly converted to CONSUMERS had not yet reached 50% + epsilon. (epsilon being any amount, even infintesimally, larger than zero)
Sadly, it has happened. The balance has tipped, nevermore to tip back.
Only more and more slugs will elbow their way to the public trough during the next four years, ensuring that by 2016, NOTHING recognizable about this Once Great Nation will
remain but it’s carcass, picked clean by the GIMMEEs.
Actually, my gut has been telling me this since the news reports started to appear that the slugs whose unemployment had finally run out had figured out how to collect disability (for the rest of their lives) instead.
Where were they when it REALLY counted?
As I asked in the past - just EXACTLY what wonders did the cadre of TP promoted congresscritters manage to accomplish since their anointments in DC??????
What happened to the TP Chapter in Arizona that started Arpaio investigating OB’s background?????????
(...................... sound of crickets..................)
Give it up, SCP.
It’s time to face reality - this country is beyond the tipping point. A majority of Americans want free stuff more than they want freedom, and we have a crop of youngsters coming up who love abortion and gay marriage, and are going to vote for people pushing it, even when it’s against their own real self-interest to do so.
It’s time for us to face facts - America is under God’s judgment, and He’s giving our people what they want, though they’re not going to like it when they have to pay the piper.
Do we really believe that America is so special that we’ll escape the judgment that has been meted out to other nations throughout history?
Mitt Romney was a symptom - but ultimately, he’s not the cause for blame. WE are. WE fat, lazy, talking like we love the Bible when we really don’t American “Christians” who want a soft spirituality that makes no demands on us, that we can do on Sunday and live the rest of the week as we like. It’s time that judgment begins at the house of God.
Fascinating, thank you, I find it strange how Ariel Sharon sleeps through such change, it’s been 7 years since he fell into a coma, Rabbi Kaduri predicted the messiah would return after Ariel dies. We are living in Strange times, Obama is an enigma.
The Republican party is filled with dem-lite, socialist-lite panderers and compromisers. At this point, even a Republican victory would be meaningless.
Re Libs & Their Long Game - Indeed, it has been a long, arduous campaign, but the blueprints were drawn up decades ago and the organization just ground along inch by inch.
My first exposure to this nefarious operation was at the age of 16 as an LEGAL immigrant from Canada, watching the Goldwater massacre.
Then in high school my first boss lent me a copy of “Rythym, Riots & Revolution” which was a REAL eye opener.
Followed the JBS for awhile too.
By the time that MTV first appeared on the scene, I told everyone within the sound of my voice that it was a destructive and evil influence on the youts of the world, mine included. It’s disgusting programming motivated me to install a power lock on our TV at the time. Unfortunately, the material was available at all the other homes in “progressive”, “diverse” and “politically correct” Irvine.
At the same time, I was watching the germination of the first wave of inept/immature/incompetent/co-opted batch of K-12 indoctrinators begin to work their program on the minds of US children.
TWO BIGGEST mistakes of my life:
(1) Not having wife be At Home Mom instead of Working Mom.
(2) Not doing whatever it took to place our kids in private school.
However, your view that “we (can) create new voters that understand freedom and individual responsibility” is wishful thinking, because of my last two points above.
The timer bell has dinged - The USA as we knew it for a couple hundred years is DONE.
OB’s People will now chow down until all that is left is a carcass.
Well said and Amen.
Been saying this for the last several years.
But few are listening or even willing to consider it.
Like Liberal Americans who want their free stuff - American Christians bought the lies and revel in the lies, that made their faith exactly as scripture said it would become in the latter days: lukewarm.
Or as II Timothy 3 states - ‘having the form of religion - but having no power’.
Remember, Jesus warned us in Matthew 24, that when iniquity abounds, the love of many (He’s speaking to the church) - will grow cold. That we will hate and betray one another.
I believe we have arrived at that point, and God’s Judgment - giving an entire nation over to it’s debased mind - is the fruit of what we see happening around us.
All I would add to your post is that Romney is what pushed us over the cliff. While he personally may not be to blame, his philosophy, which is the product of a morally bankrupt party leadership, most certainly is.
Otherwise, Amen.
That does not mean that conservative principles are wrong, or that we shouldn't hold to them. We simply have to realize that the political climate of the country has tilted leftward and is now left of center, and this has been coming for at least a generation, maybe more. The problem is not conservatism, or the GOP, or any particular candidate our side may wish to run, the problem is that we have a country whose voting majority no longer believes in the things we believe in, the things the Founders believed in, the things that built this country from a wilderness to the most prosperous society the world has ever seen. Barack Obama didn't simply walk into the Presidency one day. People voted to put him there. He is simply the result of what has happened to our country over the last generation or two that has come of age and is now voting in elections. What will it take to change this? A country, just like a person locked in a downward spiral of decadence and personal destruction, often has to hit bottom before they can crawl back up. My guess is that a general collapse and rebirth will be what it takes. Whether or not the country holds together as a federal Republic or breaks up into autonomous states remains to be seen.
