o Residents claim they are the 'forgotten victims' of Sandy
o Also say that lack of power and law enforcement means more looting and violent crime
o Those in stricken areas stockpiling weapons like kitchen knives, machetes, and bats to protect themselves
o Coney Island residents say they are forced to 'scavenge for food like animals'
o Power unlikely to be returned to Brooklyn, Queen's and Staten Island until sometime next week
Almost one week after superstorm Sandy struck the East Coast with its ferocious force, power was still out to some 2.5 million customers due to damages, down from 3.5 million on Friday, the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Electricity Delivery & Energy Reliability claimed.
The state with the largest number of outages by far is still New Jersey with 32 percent of customers without power, it said it a report.
And as the lights begin to flicker on in Lower Manhattan, nine percent of customers across the state of New York still do not have power, followed by seven percent in Connecticut

Where’s Obama?
I heard in parts of L.I., they expect power to be out for around 3 weeks.
The union power company slugs should be really proud after turning away motivated and qualified non-union crews from other states.
He fixed it the first day. I just didn't stay fixed.
Bush's fault.
Oh, right. There’s no chance he’ll lose NY on Tuesday. Why bother?
If Dubya was still the president, the turd polishers in the liberal “media” would be screaming that he doesn’t care that “the folks” are “suffering and dying”. With Barry, it ain’t no big deal. Under socialism, a little suffering is always good for the soul and they are just whining anyway.
And these same people will vote for “The One” again! Geesh!
And, meanwhile, power crews from other parts of the country are being turned away if they aren’t union...
Maybe the womyn of the View can offer some insight. They seemed to be so knowledgeable after Katrina.
"When you only care to loot the very best..."
> Wheres Obama?
Campaigning, trying to run out the clock.
If I had the money I would drop flyers stating how the union turned away help from other states.
This is America Right?
But, Obama flew by in a helicopter and made everything better.
I read it in the news.
These people are just complaining now.
Imagine where they would be without Obama’s strong leadership. He showed up for that cameo with Christie for a few hugs and heaps of praise and then off to the campaign. Who could ask for more?
I realize it was a terrible storm , but 3 weeks ??? Sounds third world-ish to me .
Pals in LI helping out other pals in LI! Never met, but helping all the same. Bob Mc Donald sent his crews up 1600 from VA today after they got their power back!
Pray and send your contributions to the Salvation Army! Red Cross is the equivalent of FEMA!
I have alot of relatives on Long Island, in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Two of my cousins who live in different towns in Suffolk County got their power back on Saturday.
Another relative on the north shore of Long Island, in Suffolk County, still has no power.
I heard that Obama spent all of 90 minutes there, and mainly for photo-ops. He’s got to be the most selfish, anti-American president in history.
One of these days, that guy’s going to show up and start asking for royalties;))
