The nightmare that began when raging storm waters ripped two little Staten Island boys from their mother’s arms reached its tragic conclusion yesterday when their bodies were found in marshlands close to where they disappeared.
Glenda Moore wailed uncontrollably after cops showed up at her Great Kills home yesterday and delivered the grim news.
The short lives of Brandon, 2, and Connor, 4, ended in murky water, under debris and trees toppled by the storm. They were found about 20 yards apart at around 10 a.m. by cops in wet suits using shovels and pitchforks to clear the thick brush.
“It’s a shock for everybody right now,” a family friend said outside the Brooklyn home where Moore retreated to the comfort of family members. “She’s in pain.”
Moore and her husband, Damien — a city sanitation worker who had been in Brooklyn during the hurricane — stopped at a funeral home to make arrangements for the boys, described by a friend as “the joy of their lives.’’
Brandon and Connor were separated from their mother on Monday night as she frantically tried to lead them to safety, away from raging floodwaters brought by Hurricane Sandy.
“Terrible, absolutely terrible,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said. “It compounds all the tragic aspects of this horrific event.”
Moore’s Ford Explorer had gotten stuck when she was separated from her boys, police said.
Officials said Moore became frightened when the storm hit, and she rushed out of the house en route to her mother’s home in Brooklyn.
But the SUV, which she packed with a diaper bag, Halloween costumes and decorations, stalled along Father Capodanno Boulevard as the street began to flood.
After calling her husband, Moore grabbed Brandon and Connor and fled the SUV, but rising water caused her to lose her grip as the boys drifted helplessly out of her reach.

If you saw that, then you also saw the tree roots the mom said she left her kids clinging to. I saw the report myself. The tree roots were about six feet above the ground. The whole area around that massive toppled tree, was deep. Essentially, they were sticking up out of what had become part of the ocean by that point.
This man would have had to go outside in 70-90MPH winds, and swim into deep water to help her get those kids. And this is only if they were still clinging to the roots about 100 feet from his home.
Mom ignored warnings. She didn’t evacuate. She drove her car into what was by then the ocean. And here we are going after a guy who already has a full plate with his own family.
No sale.

I'm guessing the woman could not swim. Otherwise I can't imagine not going after them - even were it to my own demise...
You should have seen the vehicle. It had evidently been washed off the roadway into a field that was very uneven. The rubber on the front right was missing. Concrete, and rubbish littered the place. Much of the field appeared to be as much as ten feet below the street level. The big tree was in the middle of the lot, it was laying on it’s side, and it’s root structure went up about six feet from the ground. This was obviously full of water the other day. She told authorities she escaped the car, swam to the tree, and left the kids clinging there to go get help.
You tell me if little kids can battle the water and hold on in 70-90MPH winds and waves. Hypothermia would get to them in short order. Heck, she’s lucky to be alive.

No, she knocked on his front door.
Some people aren’t used to hurricanes or do assume it won’t be that bad. Yes, that’s her fault for not taking precautions and even driving in the middle of a bad storm.
Someone fighting for their life and that of their two small children knocks on your front door and you turn them away?
God have mercy on his soul.
If you don’t live in an area effected by hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, or any natural disaster, lucky for you. Try having a little compassion for those that do.

OK, let me get this straight, some crazy black woman tries to break into my house during a hurricane then comes up with some story about her kids being in trouble and I’m supposed to believe her? How do I know that she’s telling the truth and what am I supposed to do? Leave my home open to looting while I go and get myself killed trying to save some kids that I’m not sure even exist while she does what? Sit in my home drinking hot chocolate?
There’s been plenty of cases of good Samaritans either being robbed because it was a scam or even worse getting themselves killed trying to do a rescue that they have neither the ability, training or supported needed to actually do anything other than die in the futile attempt.
Also, where was the father(s) in all this? why were these kids left in the care of someone that obviously was not competent to even take care of herself let alone a couple of kids.
I don’t blame the guy given the circumstances I probably would have done the same thing. If it had been a neighbor or someone I knew and cared about then yes but there are times that you just have to let people suffer the consequences of their own poor choices and this looks to be one of those times.
What about a crazy white woman? Would you have let her in? Yes, lots of single women go looting during the height of a hurricane.

I may have considered letting in a crazy Asian woman, but that would have probably been my wife. Other than that probably not, any one trying to break into my home is assumed to be of poor character and not deserving of hospitality, even during a storm. And yes, during Katerina there were tons of single women looters and during the Rodney King Riots here in LA there were again tons of single women looters. Get a clue, women behave badly just like men do.

If someone refuses to open a door to a mother and two small children in a matter of life and death, that person is a cold hearted bastard.

The children were not with the mother when she went to the door. Further, the man inside thought he was talking to a man outside. Further, that person outside tried to break in through the back door.
Hell no I wouldn't open the door. If my family was inside, my concern would be for them. PERIOD!
Now, may God have mercy on people who lie about women and children showing up at doors, when they haven't.
No, they lost their lives due to their parents disregard of the warnings of a FRANKENSTORM! What were these people thinking? Not the welfare of their children obviously!
Sad, sad, sad ...
She lived a couple of doors down from a friend of mine in Great Kills. There is one large tree down on the block and no electricity. She made a tragic mistake leaving her home which was a good 50’ above the storm surge.
That said, an elderly couple died less than 1/4 mile from her home down by the water. I was down there the morning after and it looks like a bomb hit along the water.
DURING the hurricane??? Breaking into homes at the height of a killer storm? Please. Even if they took anything, where would they go??? Any self respecting looter waits till its over.
This woman was monumentally stupid and should be charged with something. What a complete idiot. She is not a victim. She is responsible for their deaths.
