Flood of tears: Bodies of SI boys found after being swept away by Sandy

The nightmare that began when raging storm waters ripped two little Staten Island boys from their mother’s arms reached its tragic conclusion yesterday when their bodies were found in marshlands close to where they disappeared.

Glenda Moore wailed uncontrollably after cops showed up at her Great Kills home yesterday and delivered the grim news.

The short lives of Brandon, 2, and Connor, 4, ended in murky water, under debris and trees toppled by the storm. They were found about 20 yards apart at around 10 a.m. by cops in wet suits using shovels and pitchforks to clear the thick brush.

“It’s a shock for everybody right now,” a family friend said outside the Brooklyn home where Moore retreated to the comfort of family members. “She’s in pain.”

Moore and her husband, Damien — a city sanitation worker who had been in Brooklyn during the hurricane — stopped at a funeral home to make arrangements for the boys, described by a friend as “the joy of their lives.’’

Brandon and Connor were separated from their mother on Monday night as she frantically tried to lead them to safety, away from raging floodwaters brought by Hurricane Sandy.

“Terrible, absolutely terrible,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said. “It compounds all the tragic aspects of this horrific event.”

Moore’s Ford Explorer had gotten stuck when she was separated from her boys, police said.

Officials said Moore became frightened when the storm hit, and she rushed out of the house en route to her mother’s home in Brooklyn.

But the SUV, which she packed with a diaper bag, Halloween costumes and decorations, stalled along Father Capodanno Boulevard as the street began to flood.

After calling her husband, Moore grabbed Brandon and Connor and fled the SUV, but rising water caused her to lose her grip as the boys drifted helplessly out of her reach.

She should have evacuated earlier but, if she stayed that long into it, then the only choice was to hunker down and ride it out, get up high and dry and wait it out.

Heartbreaking. Those poor little guys.

Such a tragic and bizarre story.

“Cops said Moore banged on the doors of nearby houses, desperately seeking help. But the people who answered turned her away”

Who the f*** would turn away a mother and children!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they are outed and made public.

What horror.

I don’t like what they are trying to do with this story. They’re trying to absolve the mother and shift blame onto a guy who refused her entry. One reporter really went after the guy on one of the television networks.

She didn’t have the boys with her. She had abandoned them in some very deep waters, and supposedly told them hold onto some tree roots while she looked for a place to take them. At least that’s her story.

They showed the area. I don’t honestly know how the man or the mother could have saved those kids.

What the hell is wrong with a woman who fails to listen to the warnings, then puts her children in that situation?

Those poor kids deserved better.

Given what happened to Great Kills, I understand the impulse to panic and try to drive away.

What confuses me is that she drove south toward the ocean to take a backroad path with lots of stoplights to the Verrazano Bridge, instead of driving north into higher ground onto the SI Expressway. Same distance.

Either way, the Verrazano was closed and had been closed for hours.

The most charitable explanation was that she acted from sheer, crazed panic.

Those poor kids must have been absolutely terrified in the end.

Their lives cut short by just pure selfishness. What a country we’e fallen to.

She didn’t have the boys with her when she knocked on those doors. The storm was at full blast, and the boys were left in deep water to cling to some tree roots according to the mom.

The only person responsible here, is a woman who failed to take any precautions whatsoever, lost her children, and is now trying to blame it all on someone else.

I don’t think the man was obligated to forfeit his life because this woman failed her duty as a mother. And to save those boys, he would have had to do just that.

I’m sorry the boys were lost, but mom really screwed up.

Anderson Cooper’s reporter showed the guy. Cranky bastard didn’t want to be bothered to help anyone. Said he broke no law but cops were pissed. Sad story and tells what life in post Christian America is like.

There is a lot more to this story, NAH.

The mother and her family have given the media at least four separate versions of the events from what I have seen.

In only one version is it claimed she had her children with her.

In most versions, the children had already been swept away in the storm and she was trying to convince a stranger in a flooding house to abandon their own family and swim out to find her children in the flood.

This story needs further inquiry, to put it mildly.

I understand the bodies of these poor kids were found right near where the NYC Marathon will start on Sun. So much for all that libtalk about sensitivity.

Cranky bastard didn’t want to be bothered to help anyone.

His story is not that someone knocked at his front door asking to be let in, but that someone tried to break into his house through his back door.

Here's an insight: he's not the only person on Staten Island feeling cranky today.

Nerves are frayed beyond the breaking point.

And this is just one story. And how do the liberals respond? With elitism as usual. The NYC marathon must go on, and let’s use giant generators for the media while millions are still without power.

And if that ain’t a hoot, my pop is a retired cop who just got a message to volunteer. To help the displaced families? Of course not. They want him to volunteer for the NYC marathon! Let’s just ignore what happened as we do not want the election ruined for The One. Move it along, nothing has happened here.

Mom decided to drive along a street directly next to the bay. In a hurricane.

If she had gone inland just a few blocks, she would have been above the storm surge.

What a tragic outcome. Perhaps one day we’ll find out what really happened but that’s the third variation of this story I’ve seen, and there may be more.

Her actions were so stupid, it falls into the category of suspicious.

And, I'm sorry, but in these days if a black woman comes banging on my door yelling to be let in, I would be hesitant regardless of the weather. Too many home invasions begin this way.

Tragic that these little guys had to die and the mother will suffer with massive guilt for the rest of her life. Every parent who loses a child thinks that they are to blame whether they are or not, but she has no one to blame but herself.
