Hundreds of thousands of people in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey may not have power restored for up to 10 more days, officials warned Thursday. Meanwhile, weather forecasters said a winter storm could hit the Northeast next week.
In New York City, the utility ConEd said the 228,000 customers in Manhattan still without power should have it back by Saturday, but that would leave more than 400,000 elsewhere potentially in the dark beyond Saturday.
In a statement Thursday, ConEd said it hoped the vast majority of those would have power by Nov. 11.
The areas taking the longest, spokeswoman Sara Banda told NBCNews.com, are those with overhead lines. "It's taking a bit longer," she said, noting that crews have had to deal with 100,000 downed lines.
As for the potential for a new storm, Banda said ConEd has a team dealing with weather scenarios. "We're going to have to take that into account," she said.
ConEd also noted that many buildings in areas with restored service will continue to be without power until they repair any flood damage to their own electrical systems.

Kind of prophetic where it hit. Just an observation, not wishing them harm.
...but they just had plenty of wind for all the generators....
After everything Obama has done. He was even praised by Christie, endorsed by Nanny Bloomberg, hugged a lady and did a flyover.
What more can these people want?
We’ll throw in a marathon and a Springstein concert.
What, they still want to complain??
“We’re going to die” Ungrateful New Yorkers Whine
Ten days with out electricity gets annoying.
That is a long time to go without heat in NYC.
They have a lot of looting and wildin’ going on too. :(

I don’t know the rodents are having a good time.
wow!
all that useful information for what... a measely few hundred millions dollars per year?
Wouldn't know...never went that long.
51 hours from the AD 2011 Pennsylvania "Halloween Snow"
54 hours from Tropical Storm Irene
97 hours from Tropical Storm Isabel (AD 2003).
That one got really tedious because I did not have a generator...but I got one right afterward.
Costs about $5.00 for LPG but on a well no electricity = no water.
Valuable life lesson: In the case of an impending disaster situation, get as far away from a major city as possible.
We’re having a beautiful Native American summer out here in northern Arizona.
After Hurricane Ike hit Houston, we waited 22 days for power to be restored in our neighborhood, not far from the central city. Neighbors helped neighbors survive it, but it was hard.
It’s hard to imagine the people in NJ and NY being able to last that long because winter will be upon them. They need to get out now, before the unrest begins.
What? That didn't happen? Obama bailed and went back to campaigning in Ohio, the state that Axlerod says he has in the bag?
We could be looking at a situation worse than Katrina here. Next week, temps will be in the 30s and we could have snow and sleet. This won't make for many happy voters in NJ come Election Day.
So much for Obama being "in command".
Bush was done off the media and the left which really are the same today but lets say where are the FEMA trailers in place, why was no gas in supply, why has many areas not seen FEMA, why is obama campaining? Why was obama not ready for this storm?
NJ is not used to this as we are down here and already figths are breaking out , looting taking place though the media is trying to yet again cover up for their messiah like they are doing for Libya.
As time goes on this is going to get worse but the question is will the media blame obama like they did for Bush and does obama hate people of all races like they said Bush hated black people.
Not going to be pretty these next few days and to think where is obama?
OH WAIT HE;S OUT CAMPAIGNING
