Amid abysmal earnings reports from some of the worlds top companies in recent weeks, Americans may be spending less on things like consumer electronics and dining out, but one trend remains seemingly unstoppable.
Weve got an insatiable demand for weaponry, with more guns being purchased last year in America than there are active duty military members in the worlds fourteen largest militaries.
Americans like their guns, and according to the latest quarterly revenues from Sturm, Ruger & Co., that isnt going to change anytime soon. In fact, over the last five years weve seen a massive increase in gun buying. So much so that Ruger was forced to suspend new firearms orders earlier this year because they simply could not keep up with demand.
Last quarter, Ruger blew away analysts expectations with sales of $118 million, which amounts to nearly half a billion dollars on an annual basis.
Moreover, whats impossible to ignore about this trend is whats behind it.
The single largest determining factor as to why gun sales have surged since early 2008 seems to be a collective fear surrounding the election of a big government anti-gun socialist as the final arbiter and protector of the U.S. Constitution.

If Obama wins, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
If the President is re-elected, sales of arms will rise sharply.
Just bought a Kahr P380. Really nice shooting gun. Loaded it up with Hornady Critical Defense ammo. I know .380 rounds are not ideal, but the small caliber gun you have on you will beat the large caliber gun locked in the closet every time.
I’ll be helping soon. The moment I move to North Carolina from New Jersey I’m buying a Ruger LC9 for concealed carry. How refreshing it will be to live in a state that allows you to protect yourself and your loved ones!
the day after election day, I expect Obama to attempt to sign an EO restricting magazine size, or whatever he can do w/o congress.
I picked up my Second SR1911 a week ago!
He’d be limited to messing with imported firearms, parts, mags and ammo. An executive order on domestic magazine capacity wouldn’t fly.
The one rifle I lust for is the Ruger Scout. Actually I want a pair of them, one for me and one for Mrs. L. Looks like we will be waiting a while for them.
I'm real happy with my Ruger 380 LCP...it goes everywhere I go.
If Obama wins...this country is gone. And we who love freedom must go to the mattresses.
If Obama loses...he (or those who support him) will still start another war.
Socialism/Marxism/Communism will not die with a whimper...
Re: #12 Why are you waiting? Gun Broker has tons of them.
Top 10 reasons a gun is better than a woman.
#10 You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.
#9 You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you’re on the road.
#8 If you admire a friend’s gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.
#7 Your primary gun doesn’t mind if you keep another gun for a backup.
#6 Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.
#5 A gun doesn’t take up a lot of closet space.
#4 Guns function normally every day of the month.
#3 A gun doesn’t ask, “Do these new grips make me look fat?”
#2 A gun doesn’t mind if you go to sleep after you use it.
And the number one reason a gun is better than a woman.
#1 YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A GUN!
380 will get the job done and what you say about the smaller caliber gun you carry being better than a larger caliber one you don’t is also very true.
I made the decision to go no smaller than 9mm. I think 9mm gives you a pretty good combination of firepower, quantity you can carry, and the cost of ammo. There are many highly concealable 9mm models out there. I have the sr9c which is pretty good for that purpose. Other 9mm good options, some even a little smaller, would include: the S&W Shield, the Ruger L9, the Baretta Nano, and the Sig 239 and 938, Kahr K9, and the baby glock.
For me, the Ruger sr9c works perfectly. It is fairly small, but I can get a grip on the pistol and the trigger is fantastic. I usually appendix carry when I am walking around. If I am sitting or riding my motorcycle, I will use a shoulder holster.
I am happy that I live in a state where getting a concealed carry permit is very easy. Carrying a gun in your car without a permit is also allowed.
Just watching what is going in the Northeast where most don’t have that option only reinforces my opinion that concealed carry is good thing to have.
My rabbi bought his first gun. It was a ruger. I made sure to tell him to buy it BEFORE the election.
