With respect to the hearing impaired, this is over-the-top political correctness run amok. Most if not all deaf viewers have closed-captioning.
Liberals have them front and center. Christie, on the other hand, just delivered his message and got on with it.

LOL, the look on Bloombergs face says it all.

Sign language interpreters often use extreme facial expression. It’s a part of communication.

Cute girl (at least to this old phart).
Quite talented at what she does.
I have wondered why this is done given that most all deaf folks would have closed captioning turned on.

Funny, yesterday I called my wife to the TV to watch her.
She’s as fast as he can talk too. Fascinating.

From my experience, deaf people are very, very good at lip reading and hence the reason you see coaches on sidelines with the card in front of their face and catchers and pitchers covering their faces when they talk. I suppose in a large room it may be helpful, but there is no need for the person to be standing right next to the speaker.

It is so bizarre to watch these interpreters. Very distracting.

Lending attitude and expression to signing is part of the language. Some speakers and some signers are more expressive than others but it’s not upstaging anyone. Closed captioning is not the same as being spoken to in your language nor is it the same for signing.

Be understanding. She was hyped on caffeine from that super-large soda shed just bought at 7-11.

So that is what she is a sign language “person.” I thought it was someone having a fit.

The legal recognition of sign languages is one of the major concerns of the international Deaf community. There is no standard way in which such a recognition can be formally or legally extended; every country has its own interpretation. In some countries, the national sign language is an official state language, whereas in others it has a protected status in certain areas such as education. However, symbolic recognition is no guarantee for an effective improvement of the life of sign language users. Sarah Batterbury has argued that sign languages should be recognized and supported not merely as an accommodation for the disabled, but as the communication medium of language communities For the uninitiated (Sign Language) as a recognized language.

This is almost as funny as the recent Neil Young clip on You Tube. It’s of Young performing at a concert and there is a woman signing to the audience the lyrics to the song that is being played.
