CBS News) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke to "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which made landfall near Atlantic City, N.J. and wreaked havoc statewide.
"The state of New Jersey took it in the neck worse than any other state," Christie said of the storm's effects. "It's going to take us a while to dig out from under it, but we will dig out from under it," he added.
Christie called the level of cooperation between the local, state and federal governments "excellent" and praised President Obama's involvement. "I was on the phone for the third time yesterday, last night, with the president of the United States. He called me at midnight last night as he was seeing reports," he said before adding that President Obama accelerated the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area "without the usual red tape."
"The cooperation has been great with FEMA here on the ground and the cooperation from the president of the United States has been outstanding. He deserves great credit," Christie added.

“Seriously, the only people that Obama will score points with on the hurricane are the libs in NY and NJ. Everyone else has a brain and cognitive thinking skills.”
Disagree. There are too many sheeple out there, and there is enough time for the Lames to build up Zero as being so brilliant in a crisis, where meany-pants W was inept and uncaring.
Already the Lames are declaring another ‘gaffe’ by Romney for his FEMA statement, which they are playing ad nauseum...
And THANKS A LOT Christie, for giving the Lames their sound-bite to be shown over and over.
Did he lower them for Stevens?
He politicized it this morning with his very rude response to Fox & friends. It was a legitimate question.
he could just shut his mouth
Let's hope not on both counts.
While I don’t like it, Christie can’t afford as a Romney surrogate to appear to be playing politics at all.
IF HE EVEN SAID ANYTHING THAT APPEARED LESS THAN POSITIVE about Obama’s response, it would be the leading news of the day and be tied to Romney.
Sorry folks, but Christie’s right here.
He’s first and foremost an attention-seeking politician. Besides praising The Worst President Ever because he had several ego-building calls from the White House, his other concern was possibly rescheduling Halloween “for the children.”
Gack....sounds like a Democrat to me.
political...this is going to be political...
What an idiot. “Presidential Politics” is probably the most important thing going on in the country right now. Whether you like it or not the next President will decide the fate of many more lives than the hurricane. The time for politics is now Christie. The fact that you don’t get that is a problem
A week before the election and you’re going to say that Obama deserves GREAT CREDIT? I don’t think so....we need to fight until the end. Obama did NOTHING that deserves great credit. BUSH did waaaaaay more for New Orleans than was ever reported and look how the DEMS handled that. Sorry, friend...we fight til the end. No more Mr Nice Guy...our country can’t afford it.
Worked so good they repeated themselves with Bush 43.
I can be just as political as the rats and their faux messiah. FEMA NEVER CREATED A BUSINESS... CREATED WEALTH OR HELPED THE ECONOMY... THEY REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH ONLY... AND VERY inefficiently at that.
LLS
The reality is that FEMA does not have a ton to do, because local police and fire departments are well equipped and well staffed and pretty much every town has an evacuation center with generators. The thousands of homeless families around here (which potentially includes me - I have no information yet on my own home) will stay with relatives instead of in government trailers.
He didn’t have to answer the question. He acted like Romney was trying to horn in. He said he didn’t want to politicize the disaster and he did exactly that by praising Obama and shutting down the question on Romney. He’s a politician through and through and a rude one at that.
He had to explain that he couldn’t get on a helicopter because of the high winds. Can’t he direct the relief from the ground? He is worried he can’t pose for pictures without the helicopter ride. No one cares whether he is in a helicopter or not, except for Christie. It’s all about politics with this man.
There is NEVER a reason to give this POS (Obama) credit for ANYTHING.
Christie is an A$$. A BIG FAT A$$. Hardly presidential. He could solve his two biggest problems at the same time with duct tape, by putting it over his mouth.
Wish CBS would just stop politicizing.
It is CBS who is doing it AND 0.
Christie coul’ve done differently, but I do have to say this. He could not have slept last night. He’s got a horde of tired, scared and hard-working people on his hands and weeks more to go (this, not being an election stunt, will not be over on election day) and CBS needs to just stop trying to ruin our country by pushin 0 back onto us. THey’ll be the first ones whining over what a complete and utter disaster 0 makes of this country 2 weeks into a second or should I say first term of his complete tyranny.
STOP it CBS JUST STOP IT
OBAMA SAVED US!!!
Fat boy to voters: Big gov’t works. It ‘s a big storm fat boy, not the end of the world. Total wuss.
I really think people have made up their minds on who they are voting for. Most can see that those media outfits are pimping Obama in a shameful way over this storm.
The truth about storms or events like it is that most of the country knows about it, but they aren’t focusing on it as much as we political junkies. Distance, and not feeling any of the effects of the storm, don’t make it a top story of interest for them.
Best thing to do is ignore the MSM Obama hero hype.
