SERIOUSLY, this does not sound like the government was prepared at all! Did they think these hospitals would be undamaged?
Terrible time to be evacuating!
LOL...had to laugh at that one....I remember putting up the "strips" and marking off the hours on the IV and then trying to time the drips so the solution went in in the proper time...fun times...surprisingly, it was pretty accurate....
the worse problem for hospitals would be sanitation.....removing waste, flushing toliets, etc...
Bellevue Hosptial - just now requested help as it is critical.
Bless you NELSON111! Again you have been one of the few voices of sanity and reason in this whole mess!
Looks like the weather service/you missed the 11' Battery Park surge level by about 3' since it topped out at 14'.
Guess you were wrong? We're all human! :)
And an occasional alligator. : O
If a cat 1 creates this amount of issues, the folks up north will need to some rethinking as a cat 2 or 3 would be a doozy for them. I can’t imaging what they would do with a cat 4.
You asked about a report from WV. So far in our area, middle western WV, things have been quiet all day. Just a gentle rain and a light breeze. Now the only change is the wind has picked up a little. Looks to be about 15-20 mph. We may get some snow flakes in with the rain, but don’t think it will stick. We are on the banks of the Ohio River. They say the big snow will be in the mountains where the ski resorts are. Don’t think they will mind.
Are the waters up north warm enough for a Cat 2, 3 or 4?
There are some false reports floating around, though - the NYSE flooding report was false.
It’s getting a bit dicey with the wind right now, but NYC is getting it bad from storm surge, as is the shore, so all in all we seem to be in good shape out this way...
Living on West Coast, we’ve never encountered anything like this but we do have earthquakes, possible tsunami threats etc..so after watching Sandy coverage tonight, we just finished updating our “get the hell out of dodge” list. Better safe than sorry!
You did yeoman's service last night with the looney brigade that simply would NOT hear / comprehend.
Full moon, election tension, dunno WTH was in the water last night, but you displayed way more patience with the goofs than I'd have been able to muster.
The majority needed a good stiff slap upside the head, imho.
Agreed.
I don't know if they ever got that generator working. I'm not far from that hospital and I didn't have power for five days.
When power goes out, one cannot depend on anything electrical working. I am, therefore, not surprised these New York hospitals have trouble with no generators working. I
Requesting #30(?) fuel in say 5 gallon containers. Needs to go to the 13th floor where the generators are. Used 30 gal. per hour. Requesting nat’l guard to help carry them up.
Another place had an electrical system under the sidewalk on fire. All they could do was rope it off, “no ETA” (assume that means no help available to respond at the time.
Some things CAN be prepared for (like having more than 4 hours of fuel on hand for a hospital). However, the thing about these HUGE disasters - they are HUGE. No matter how many fire fighters, trucks, etc. - they WILL be overwhelmed.
What bothers me is they need to respond to the idiots that get stuck in an elevator, or try to drive on the flooded streets and get stuck or washed away.
Prayers up for all in harm’s way.
Really, well CNN is telling the story about the NYSE flooding.
It’s been pretty wet and windy in central md. Haven’t lost a tree...yet. Power still on, more than I can say for the derecho this past June.
Seems much like "fog of war" -- the other report saying the generators were already offline.
If they only have 1 hr. of fuel left, someone messed up big time. Not good, any way you look at it.
Something about this whole storm reminds me of the scene in "Master and Commander" where the crazy old guy has written on him "hold fast". "Hold fast" indeed.
