Sounds bad yet there are a solid group of FReepers who will thump their chest and tell you it isn’t all that bad or outright hint you are exaggerating. Their seem to be a small but vocal contingent that I wouldn’t be surprise to hear them go up to the Lord after Armageddon and say: “Lord why all the hype in the Book of Revelations? I mean it wasn’t all that bad.”

Worse yet is all of the ‘ODS’ I’ve seen here on FR. Yes ‘Bama’ is horrible, yes he HAS GOT TO GO, but these people act like ‘Bama’ either conjurered up the storm or the whole thing is some Machiavellian plot out of a bad suspense novel. LIFE goes on, things happen. The storm doesn’t know or care that it’s election time or what ‘BAMA’ has done to this country.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of people who believed so much that the hurricane is just some leftist plot that they are caught unprepared for the storm and dying as a result of it crying out “It’s Obama’s fault” with their last breath!

Some seem to have reached a point where if they go to the doctor next week and he tells them that they have cancer it will be Obama’s fault! Or if they have a flat tire on the way to work next week it will be Obama’s fault! If you step on a crack and break your mother’s back it will be Obama’s fault!

To me this is the talk, methods and the mindset of the leftist. Its the same shill BS they spewed against George Bush. I thought we are better than that. I know we should be better than that. I am sure that we can be better than that.

The other thing I notice is that is the me, me, me mindset so many seem to be taking with this storm. Hell this storm will most likely KILL people and here’s people who are supposedly conservatives sounding like leftist. Everything is me me me. How is the Hurricane going to effect the election? And so on it’s sickening. So people are going to die and homes get lost and peoples lives get turned upside down and inside out, well that’s bad but how is it going to effect me? I guess it doesn’t matter what losses occur as long as it doesn’t effect the election. Seems many on FR have their priorities screwed up.

It appears so. The storm tracks usually get deflected from us by the hills in the Finger lakes region.

I fear that Cortland is going to really pay though. They always get much more rain than we do and they are on a flood plain and tend to flood very easily as it is.

Syracuse should be in better shape. Although they also get more storms than we do because of the storm track, they don’t tend to flood easily.

Onondaga Lake could use the influx of clean water anyway........

GeronL, I see you have your own blog - why don't you go there and post your vitriol about these people being caught in a life threatening situation. You have absolutely no compassion and I called you a “Genuine Ass” and you are. You are not compatible with Freepers who care for one another.

Jim, check out his posts on this thread. The rest of us are appalled by his attitude.

Looks like the lights are still on in the rest of Manhattan. That's better than what I've experienced in other hurricanes.

It will be worse than tropical storm Agnes.
That storm dump a lot of heavy rain in central and south east PA.
Not going to be good at all.

One of the ways some people deal with potential bad news is denial. Its an effective tool to shield oneself. It doesn’t mean the person doesn’t care, it means the person cares more than they can handle.

I wasn’t downgrading the storm, just the hyperbole.

I knew that you'd be embarrassed and humiliated by all your joker/degrader posts of last night.

Oh yes, you most definitely DID denigrate this entire tragedy last night, on this very website. To wit (a small sampling):

Because I’m not blaming the full moon for storm surge? Does it matter whether its full or not? It’s still there with the same gravitational effect.

It’s not half as powerful as Katrina was supposed to be. If the old levies hadn’t failed, that bowl would have stayed okay. Just because it is the east coast the MSM is putting on a spectacular show. People are acting like it is the first time water ever fell from the sky.

The hyperbole is what is amazing. ‘We never ever ever ever ever saw anything this bad in the history of the planet!’

11” storm surge... Katrina had 30” as someone pointed out and if those levies didn’t fail, nobody would remember it.

Nobody is doubting that there is a storm and that’s its dumping a lot of water. That isn’t exactly unprecedented. We get storms here. Power gets knocked out. Twisters are formed. We watch for rotation on weather radar. We marvel at how hail can fall when its spring or summer. People lose roofs, car windows shatter, low lying areas flood (we have well known flood plains and such, everyone knows where they are when the pump-houses and ravines aren’t enough)

Acting like its the first time, as if nobody has ever dealt with it before or as if they are totally unprepared has to be amazingly short-sighted.

Cities have snow plows and sand trucks because winter comes.

GeronL on Superstorm Sandy

And I'm not the only one who's brought this to your attention.

Hit Toronto a few hours ago, one fatality:

Woman killed by flying sign as Sandy’s winds batter Toronto

I live downtown, wind is howling right now and it hasn't peaked yet. This is the first hurricane to hit us since Hazel in 1954.

I’m listening to NYC’s WABC. What a mess. Salt water in the subways, corroding everything, no lights. People are seeing transformers blowing all over. Already billions in damages. I’m sitting here in the dark myself, but I have heat, lights & water.

According to Freeper GeronL, this storm is really no big deal....

“We understand that he is not representative of TX FReepers.
What needs to be pointed out as well, is that he is not representative of FReepers, period.
Maybe the mods need to slap him down with a time out until either the storm is over or he learns some manners.”

I have alerted Jim. Maybe he will deal with him.
