Prayer Request: A Young Family Man & Navy Vet Loses His Battle with cancer [#125 update]

I always say a prayer or two when I see prayer requests on FR. I pray a lot. I believe in the power of prayer.

Well today there is a Freeper who needs our prayers in his fight against cancer.

He is 'hiramknight' here on FR and he is one of my...sorry...he is my closest friend. I have never found anyone who thinks so much like I do. I introduced him to Free Republic and he is someone I can sit with for hours while we discuss and solve all of the world's problems.

Scott is a US Navy veteran and has recently been dignosed with esophageal cancer.
He headed up a team who maintained a wing of Navy P3 Orion sub hunters and also has worked for NASA.

I am in awe of this man and his situation has really thrown me for a loop.
You can read a great deal about him on his FR Profile page.
He is one of the Good Guys and he needs the very real power of the prayers from those here on FR to get through this. Please take a moment of your busy days and ask the Lord to show Scott his power and love and help him expunge this evil from his body. His family and friends need him to come out of this alive.

Exodus 15:26 ~ For I am the Lord that healeth thee.

HEALING CONFESSION ~ Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Living Word. You said that Your Word is Life to those who find it and medicine to all their flesh. Today, by my confession, I apply Your Word to our body by giving voice to it. You said in Psalm 139:14 that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that Your works are marvelous. I declare that You made us and we are a marvelous creation. Proverbs 3:7-8 teaches that we are not to be wise in our own eyes; we are to fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to our body and nourishment to our bones.

I speak to sickness and disease today and proclaim that according to Philippians 2:10 that they must bow down to the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Every name in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth bows its knee to Jesus’ name.

I speak to our body today and declare that we have authority over it. I command it to receive the Living Word of God. Matthew 8:17 proclaims that Jesus bore our sickness and took our infirmities. Heavenly Father, I thank You that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us and makes alive our mortal body.

I speak to our immune system and command it to line up with the Word of God. Our immune system will destroy sickness and disease in our body and perform its job, for this is what You created it to do. I thank You, Father, that every cell in our body responds to Your Word. Your Word permeates our body from the top of our head to the bottom of our feet. I confess that the Word of God is being made flesh in us. Psalm 103:3 declares that You, Father, forgave all our iniquities and healed all our diseases. Father, that is Your confession and I make it our confession also. We don’t judge by the sight of our eyes; we judge by Your Living Word. It is Your Word that lives in us and brings health and healing to every part of our body.

Heavenly Father, I rejoice at Your promise of divine health. You said it and I believe it. Today I declare that we will see Your Promise of healing manifest in our body. Healing is ours because Jesus paid the price two thousand years ago. God so loved us that He sent His Son to die on the cross so that we could experience life on God’s terms. O Father, thank you for making us whole ~ body, soul and spirit. Exodus 15:26 ~ For I am the Lord that healeth thee. Amen and Amen.

Isaiah 41:10 ~ Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Almighty Father, please grant that this man be healed and made whole, as is Your will. Please give special attention to his needs and those of his family and friends, as only You can. I ask this in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.

UPDATE.

I thought I would pass along the latest from my good friend 'hiramknight' since you all have been so awesome with your replies.

From Scott;

The longer this thing drags out the clearer it gets as to how cloudy the future can be. As of now we still don't even know if these treatments are working. That's not a bad thing, it's just that it takes a while for results to be seen. Normally three weeks after the first chemo infusion. That means on week 5, I'll get the results back from the lab.

These folks are aiming for total remission, which according to my doctor will take time with me because of my advanced stage. If they see a decrease in my cancer markers, and my liver enzymes look better it means the treatment is working. That's more than Dana Farber said could happen.

Logic says, that if it's working, with no side effects, and the cancer is receeding toward total remission, treatment should continue until that goal is reached, and Blue Cross Blue Shield should pick up the tab. That brings us well past November 25 however. Logic would also say that if it works here, why not just continue it at home? You would have to ask the FDA that question as they have decided it is best to ban the very therapies which could very well save my life. The pharmecuetical industry lobby is extremely powerful and if these therapies were ever approved in the states those companies would lose a lot of money on lost chemotherapy revenue.

But, this is a null point because we don't even know if it's working. It's just something for us to think about. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Another Update

This one is a bit more upbeat. My man is hanging tough;

Chemo treatment 2 down without a hitch. I feel better than ever. I had it Tuesday and today have no effects whatsoever. I thought I had lost my appetite there for a while when I went to the dining room and smelled dinner. I started getting a little nauseaous. Turns out the body can only take so much cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts before it rebels. So we went out and I had tomato soup, salad and a pizza. No appetite problem here. I had Lina's leftover pizza before bed.

The diet here also has another affect on the body. I wondered why we have dual balconies in the room when we first got here, but after 2 1/2 weeks we realized that they're for cross ventilation.

We a great visit with my old Navy buddy Rob. I'm so proud of him. He's all grown up now. When I first met him he was a nervous inflight tech fledgling fresh out of aircrew school. Nicest guy you could ever want to meet. Today he's still the nicest guy you could ever want to meet except he's all grown up into a Lieutenant Commander in Naval Intelligence. It's been 21 years since I've seen him, and the first thing he did was give me a bear hug. We hope to spend Thanksgiving with him depending on how things work out.

So I guess no news is good news. No change in my physical condition. Obviously we miss everyone very much and that is the source of any depressed emotions. Make no mistake, I got this. This is the longest I've ever been away from the kids, and the longest I've been away from home since the service. But, we're almost halfway there!

UPDATE.

God heard the prayers and he answered. The official numbers are a 20% reduction in both the tumor marker and the liver enzyme numbers. This treatment IS working, and the chemotherapy cocktail prescribed as a result of the chemo-sensitivity test produces no lasting adverse side effects. Gout is the only indication of the treatment and this is gone in a day or two.

My numbers should decrease an additional 5% before heading home. That means I'll have 75% left to figure out how to get rid of.

The doc says it should take about six more months of this treatment for it to be gone completely. It's up to me to figure out where to get it because I can't get Insulin Potentiated Therapy (IPT) and local hyperthermia threatment in the U.S.

Don't get me wrong, Germany is a beautiful place, but I don't want to be here for six months. I thought I was done with deployments when I left the Navy.

Heartening news. How pathetic that our country won’t let adults make a decision on what drugs to take to combat a life and death situation. Glad Scott was able to get to Germany to take this therapy and that it’s shown positive results for him.

I haven't updated in a while. Things have been so nuts here. Thank you for your prayers.

Scott has decided to say, "Screw it" to medicine in the US and go full bore with the treatment he is receiving in Germany.

He was home for Christmas and will be headed back for more treatment. As he says, "I'll be back here on Jan. 7 for the next treatment to kick some more cancer butt so from then until Jan. 23, it'll be "Damn all the needles, full speed ahead!!"

There is an update from him on his Caring Bridge site:

"When I started this journey, I was pretty far gone. The docs couldn't even give me an estimate as to when this whole thing started. When they said I had only months left, and their treatment would give a few more, something inside me clicked and my resolve went into overdrive. I didn't know how long I'd be able to maintain this losing battle, but as time goes on, with the support I get from all of you, I'll be fighting until I win. I plan on being one of those unexplainable statistics. I'll just keep arming myself with new information, and coming up with contingeounsy plans, in case the treatment I'm on stops working."

Many of his friends and family will be holding a fund raiser in February. I have to travel to Canada for 3 weeks in February so I hope I can work that around the event.
