According to PEW last year most marketing and political polls were down to a 9% response rate. They could easily be nearer to 3%.

The problem is that the lower the response rate the greater the influence on the results by isolated groups that ALWAYS ANSWER THE PHONE AND PARTICIPATE IN POLLS!

Right off hand those groups are homosexuals (aka GBLTs), abortion rights industry people, and professional feminists (aka Feminazis).

Increasing the sample size does not improve the results ~ just ropes in more of the same old same old.

Compounding the problem, there are about equal numbers of party support personnel for the BIG TWO parties, and they'll answer polls at the drop of a hat. It's possible that Republicans are overrepresented simply because fewer of them also fall into the GBLT, abortion and Feminazi categories.
