Obama Supporters Rally Around Anti-Mormonism

What would you think if you were told that the most bigoted, intolerant, hateful, and xenophobic political messages this election cycle are being spread by Obama supporters?
From ridiculing and disrespecting the Mormon religion to spreading secretly taped videos recorded by an Obama supporter in a Mormon church, those on the left are sanctioning this particular form of bigotry because its all for the cause: Obama.
Nowhere is this more obvious than in the media, where pages upon pages have been devoted to Romneys religion. Vicious, anti-Mormon rhetoric, ramping up in the final days leading up to the election, has been spread by MSNBC and CNN hosts, the New York Times (they have devoted an entire section of their website to articles about Mormonism), Washington Post, and the Daily Beasts Andrew Sullivan, to name a few. Yesterday, Breitbarts John Nolte revealed that Gloria Allreds October surprise client is spreading anti-Mormon hate around the Internet.
In one recent segment, which I took notes on right after the Tampa convention, Rachel Maddow, having attacked the religion in various ways and perhaps sensing her own intolerance, offhandedly remarked that everything she had said was ok because Romney mentioned his faith in his convention speech, rendering it fair game.
A quick perusal of the search results for Mormon on Salon.com, which resulted in 5 pages of results, reveals such headlines as Is Mormon underwear magic, What we should ask Romney about Mormonism, and Ann: Mormon missions are just like military service!

You are being disrespectful of the Rev. Billy Graham, the greatest Preacher since Paul of Tarsus.
Your bishop wants to talk to you...

The nauseating stuff posted about Mormons really needs to stop, especially since Billy Graham ministry has removed Mormons from their list of cults. I was banned for about a year and now I see that nothing has changed. The anti Mormons never let up. Its like they are obsessed.
Glad to see you still have your copy of the memo:
Office of First President & Living Prophet®: December 11st, 2011 URGENT!
Fellow MORMON Freeper Christians!!
I've been getting lots of feedback from those of you on Free Republic (spit) about a certain Colorfornicator (or something like that), who is REALLY giving us a hard time there.
Why not try to point out to the uninformed how OBSESSED he seems to be.
Let's see if we can tangle him up so much trying to defend his reputation that he'll no longer have as much time to post facts about MORMONism.
As always, Tommy M.

Please note: I am a Mormon; Jesus Christ is my Savior and Best Friend; Jesus suffered and died to save me from my sins and I love Him with all my heart. But of course my heartfelt testimony is not good enough for the anti MormonISM gang. Oh, well, thank Goodness my Judge is Jesus Christ.
Office of First President & Living Prophet November 1st, 2011
The message for this month is -
...to stay on our mantra: We ARE Christians!!
We've been taking a beating on the Internet - especially from those hateful ANTIs on FreeRepublic!
We MUST keep the media constantly informed of those things the world considers christian.
We must NOT allow our MORMONness to show thru, as it has gotten a really bad rap thru history - lord only knows why...

Went to the Mormon baptism of a very close friend's son. Nice enough service, but in the middle of one of the songs I caught myself short and stopped singing and nudged my wife to stop.
A familiar tune, somewhat familiar words. But then got to the part where I figured out that the “praise to the man”, “his blood shed for thee” (IIRC) was referring to Joseph Smith, and not Jesus!! (Glanced around for lightening!).
All of the Mormons that I have known have been very nice, loving and respectful of my views. Mostly conservative as well, patriotic, and many in our military.
However, in some parts of the country I have seen that they are VERY clannish. That part worries me a bit if Romney is elected, and if he only surrounds himself with Mormans - and limiting the knowledge base.
It also bothers me that a man in such a powerful position can be so misguided as to believe in Mormonism.
Although my main concerns are his liberal views and/or flip-flops on things.
Luckily I am in a very liberal state where my vote won't matter, so I can vote my conscience for a third party. If I was in a battleground state I would be very conflicted in voting for Romney. However, he will be 100 times better than Obama, and would probably pull the lever for Romney.
Thanks for all of your interesting posts Elsie.

Do you remember the title?
Here is a MORMON song entitled Praise to the Man.
(click)
Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.
Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.
Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Yes - that was the song. And I see that I did NOT recall the lyrics correctly. But as a Protestant the lyrics mean about the same, although I imagine that I am not seeing them in the same light that a Morman does:
“Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav’n while the earth lauds his fame.”
along with:
“Blessed to open the last dispensation...”
and
“Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.”
The thoughts behind these verses is perhaps summarized by Brigham Young:
On several occasions, Young made statements such as, “Joseph Smith holds the keys of this last dispensation, and is now engaged behind the vail in the great work of the last days”.
He continued with, “No man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, Junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent” (Ibid, Vol. 7, p. 289).
