An Italian court convicted seven scientists and experts of manslaughter on Monday for failing to adequately warn citizens before an earthquake struck L'Aquila in central Italy in 2009, killing more than 300 people.

Excellent idea. When a judge releases a known rapist/killer and the perptrator does it again; Well then the new victim should be able to sue the judge and defense attorney for damages. It is their fault that the action was able to take place since the perp was not in prison where he should have been.
I would vot for that. Be a liberal, activist, moronic, judge and go to jail.
Justice would mean charging climatologist and ecologists with murder. Seismologists, not so much.

Here's my guess. These 'scientists' are the scapegoats for the politicians who WERE warned by the scientists, but refused to do anything about it, because the scientists couldn't pin down an exact time and date. (the plot for every volcano movie I've seen)
When it happened, the politicians told the public it was the scientists who wouldn't tell them when it would happen. Which was true.
Ergo.... guilty.

You have obviously never met a scientists. There are hundreds and perhaps thousands of them on this web site alone, yet, your comment was one of the strangest ignorance.
About the only people I ever hear saying such stupid things are extreme born-agains that won’t so much as ever go to the doctor or take a pill and watch their family die instead all because, “If God wants them to live he won’t take them from me.”

I have a family with some US scientists and couple of medical doctors. They don’t think they know everything and don’t get in people’s faces about God and religion, or they would get their butts kicked. All of them except for one, are Christians. I also work with scientists in my career.
You are acting emotionally distraught. I was speaking of socialist ideology in Italy, because that is the topic of discussion on this thread. Socialist ideology has crashed the economy and cleansed Western culture in Italy and most of Europe. Western science came out of Western culture. Modern Western culture came out of Christianity.
It’s important that US scientists don’t permit the socialists to drag them into their cultural and economic wars (like you just did trying to demonize me as a person who won’t take pills because of my religion, you kooky guy). It’s really not a war between Christians and “scientists” as leftists claim but if leftists win power and claim science as the authority and rule of life, we can see what happens here in this article. In the former Soviet Union and in China professionals are punished like this.
The socialists won in Italy and now they are convicting their scientists of crimes for not being all knowing like gods. You need to try and see what is coming and what is at stake instead of falling for the Left’s ignorant anti-Christian hate game. It’s Western culture they are after. The culture that built American science and medicine.
Don’t pretend you are speaking for all doctors and scientists on Free Republic. Unlike you, most of them have this figured out.

I’m also a little disturbed by the comments of some Freepers who think these scientists are getting what they deserve because supposedly they support global warming. This is clearly wrongheaded. For one thing we don’t know if any of the scientists in this trial supported global warming, but even if they did you don’t put people in prison for failing to make a correct prediction concerning earthquakes. What’s next: throw weathermen in jail for failing to predict blizzards or tornadoes? I predict every Italian seisomologist in Italy will exit the country leaving it worse off than before concerning earthquake preparation.
