Romney opens up 7-point lead over Obama, as electoral map begins to shift

Mitt Romney's national lead over President Obama grew even more Thursday, with the latest Gallup survey showing the Republican nominee up 7 points -- as polling in the battlegrounds indicates the electoral map may be shifting in Romney's favor.

In a significant development, the RealClearPolitics electoral map, which offers predictions of which states favor which candidates, for the first time is showing Romney ahead in terms of electoral votes he is likely to win on Nov. 6.

Obama had a big advantage over Romney for months in those projections. But in the past few weeks, states thought to favor Obama like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania were moved into the "toss-up" column. Meanwhile, RCP just moved North Carolina from "toss up" to "leans Romney." The projections -- while subject to change any time of any day -- show Romney with a likely 206 electoral votes and Obama with 201. That leaves another 131 electoral votes up for grabs in the battlegrounds.

Sure, but not by five points. He might or might not be the “best,” but Gallup is certainly not it.

Agree! We need to work like we WANT TO WIN - or we might not!

I’m with you. Other polls i look at to see if they are trending one way or the other, but Rasmussen has a good track record and has been the most reliable lately. So i’ll continue to stick with him, and he continues to show it close.

But still it’s nice to see this poll since the democrats were getting pumped up after the debate and Republicans are still steaming over the rotten Candy that got shoved down our throats. This helps deflate the left for a bit, while giving us something sweet to chew on for a while to help alleviate the bitterness.

"... but Gallup is certainly not it."

You're certain right about that!

But, at the same time - take a look at this poll:

616 likely voters surveyed October 15-17, 2012

Choice of tickets for president/vice president:

Obama/Biden 39.17 percent Romney/Ryan 59.70 percent Johnson/Gray 0.90 percent

Approval and Disapproval of Barack Obama's performance as president

Strongly Approve 33.48 percent Somewhat Approve 6.36 percent Somewhat Disapprove 3.70 percent Strongly Disapprove 56.46 percent

Total approval and disaproval:

Approve 39.84 precent Disapprove 60.16 percent

---

Click on this link - then the date at the top of the page to see the same figures.

This is a conservative website, the number of democrats and republicans isn't given - so the numbers are likely skewed a bit, even though they are supposedly 'unskewed.'

I know the site has been hit by democrats (hard a couple of times) so there is still 'grist for the mill' to be found here.

Here's some information from that website that is important to know:

Our polls about doubly-weighted, to doubly insure the results are most accurate and not skewed, by both party identification and self-identified ideology. For instance, no matter how many Republicans answer our survey, they are weighted at 34.8 percent. If conservatives are over-represented among Republicans in the raw sample, they are still weighted at 89 percent of Republicans regardless. This system of double weighting should insure our survey produces very accurate results, not skewed either way for the Democrats or for the Republicans.

Perhaps send him an assault weapon for election night? That would be a ratings bonanza!

Perhaps send him an assault weapon for election night?

Well, that depends on where he's stationed. If he's in his own studio...maybe.

I suppose you could disable it and he could be arrested for attempted assault with a firearm.

They are trying so hard to give their base something to hold on to, it gets pathetic.

Great idea!! I’m going to head to my home brew supply store tomorrow and make a purchase myself. I’m an IPA guy myself, though...

I made up some labels for my last batch: “libery tree brew co. “ maybe this next batch will have a rattlesnake on it: “Gadsden IPA?”

Thanks for the idea! Just enough time, to- 7 days primary, 7 in secondary, and about 3 to bottle carbonate.

“Didn’t Red Diaper Doper Axelrod say that these numbers were all attributable to Alabama?”

I did hear something about that on Rush earlier today, like Romney might win Alabama 99-1, but Beckel never mentioned that, so either he hadn’t heard it or he’s not buying it.

Shoving the gay agenda on the US, banning God at the convention, disrespecting religious freedom, the economy, the racial violence and division, the Libyan attack and lying; these are all things the media can not hide.

It’s time for him to go.

Rush also added to that:

He's up 22 in the South. He says that Romney could win Alabama 99 to one, which means that's 100% irrelevant. So the fact that all of Romney's gains are in the South means it's irrelevant. It doesn't matter. Trippi is telling the Democrats they don't have to sweat this Gallup poll at all. That's right.

That's why Obama's going to Iowa and New Hampshire and all these battleground states 'cause it's irrelevant! Romney's lead's irrelevant.

Romney opens up a can of whoop-ass.

If the media is saying it’s a 7-point lead, it’s more like 27.
