OVERVIEW Ahead of Thursdays vice presidential debate, more voters view Joe Biden unfavorably than favorably, while opinions about Paul Ryan are more evenly divided. Bidens image is far less positive than it was shortly before his 2008 debate with Sarah Palin; Ryan is viewed less favorably than Palin was just prior to the last vice-presidential debate.
The national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Oct. 4-7 among 1,511 adults, including 1,201 registered voters, finds that 39% of voters view Biden favorably, while 51% offer an unfavorable impression of the vice president. Just more than four-in-ten (44%) view Ryan favorably, while about as many (40%) have an unfavorable view.
A separate survey, also conducted Oct. 4-7, among 1,006 adults and 812 registered voters, finds that voters are divided over who will do better in Thursdays vice presidential debate. Four-in-ten (40%) say Ryan will do a better job while 34% expect Biden to do better.
Bidens image is little changed since September, but he is viewed less favorably than before his faceoff against Palin four years ago. In late September 2008, 53% of voters viewed Biden favorably and just 31% expressed an unfavorable opinion. At the time, Palins favorable rating was higher than Ryans is today (51% vs. 44%).

The current survey finds that just 35% of independent voters have a favorable opinion of Biden, while 52% view him unfavorably. As many independent voters view Ryan favorably (42%) as unfavorably (42%).

What possible reason could any undecided person have for voting for the Obama Biden ticket after Lunchbox’s Joe obnoxious performance last night?
None.
Was it really worth turning off fence-sitters just to give a bratty performance like this?
If they don't have their base motived by now they are in trouble.
I don’t know how any unbiased person could look at Biden’s performance (and I do mean performance) last night and not conclude he’s a total jackass.
I can’t help thinking that, either Chris Christie or Marco Rubio would have given Biden a better battle and would not have stood for Biden’s disrespectful behavior and would have put him in his place.
The facts got lost along the way, and too many people are giving Biden a win, mostly because of his boorish style, while the facts in the real world, favor Ryan’s side.
I’m a bit at a loss, and I hope some FReepers can help me understand something.
On my drive this morning, the morning radio hosts had a “professor” from University of Florida who said that if she had to pick, Biden won by a very small margin.
I was screaming at my radio. How is it that anyone could possibly take last night’s performance as anything but a completely immature, bratty temper tantrum launched by the current VP? Even my wife, a political agnostic, watched the first 5 minutes of the debate and was yelling at the TV saying Joe was an inconsiderate douche.
So my question is this: the media, “professors,” and others are saying that “Ryan’s a liar” and Biden was right to criticize, and I need to know, if true, what did Ryan say that was a lie? I want to pawn it all off on the local media outlets and Lefties just catering to Obama’s cratering numbers and trying to drum up support, but I really want to know if there’s some magic voodoo going on with the Romney/Ryan numbers; because from my viewpoint, they’re all legit and solid.
Not many people outside the predictable are giving Biden the win.
I’m over it because, the facts and issues were second to the Biden show. I don’t think last night mattered one way or the other because Romney is the head of the ticket and he utterly destroyed Obama last week and it mattered. Last night? Not so much.
Obuma: “Let Joe be Joe.” And, that’s what we got, a total, complete, 100% jackass.
Another favorable real poll (not an online poll) showing Ryan came out best and, this is RV not LV. I imagine LV the numbers would be even better for Ryan. The other poll was CNN with Ryan winning 48 to 44.
Well, the adult in the room who has to say “No more candy!” is seldom very popular.
I don’t see what the Big Deal is all about.
He acted just like a DEMOCRAT usually does, and people got to see it for themselves instead of us telling them about it.
He was rude, obnoxious, condescending and lying his ass off.................
My wife, who couldn’t care less about politics, was watching and saying, “Look at that jerk laughing! He is being so disrespectful!”
And as the debate wore on, Biden got worse and worse............
About the same here. I didn’t watch, but she tuned in to see Ryan, who’s apparently a new Republican heart throb.
She was quite irate.
One thing is for sure, Biden didn’t do well with the female electorate last night, 52% of the population. In his bid to appeal to the base of his party, he had to become just like they are, ugly, mean and insulting...............
A lady is on KLBJ in Austin and said “If I was across the table from Bite me, I’d have reached across the table and slapped the smile off his face. His teeth would be rattling this morning.”
Good post! Best summation of Ryan's "divided popularity.
Let me add.. :)
The adult in the room who has to say No more candy! is seldom very popular.
biden said he had spent his life working to improve the lot of the “middle” class. Wrong, he’s spent his life working for and promoting liberal and socialist policies and ideals that would collapse the middle class and give us a country of the masses under control by a layer of burecrats and government employees, includinh police and military, then there would be a layer of “elites” which would include the wealthy, industralist, media and other celiberities. The top layer would be governing leaders, generals and whatever type of socilast dictator we have.
