Historically a city of French Canadian immigrants, Lewiston, Maine is now also home to some 6,000 Somalis, including shop owner and father of five Mohamed Heban, who moved to Lewiston in 2002.
But in a recent BBC documentary, Lewiston's mayor, Boston native Bob Macdonald, sounded less than welcoming.
"When you come here, you accept our culture and leave your culture at the door," he said in the documentary...

As I said in my Sunday school class two weeks ago, the idea of a ‘moderate’ muslim is a false construct. There are only two types of muslims: the ones who practice their beliefs fly planes into buildings and murder people. The other ones are muslims in name only. That’s why Islam needs to be recognized and deemed unlawful as a seditious political system.
“In his office on Wednesday, the mayor stood by his comments, saying while he welcomes all newcomers, the Somalis have been slow to assimilate.”
Fearless prediction:
The “Somali community” will NEVER assimilate.
The only “assimulatin’” you’ll see from them is when their “yutes” join up with the gangsta culture...
You probably don't want to look at the vast numbers of Somali immigrants the Bush administration let in during his tenure --against the wishes of virtually everyone.
No. Very bad idea. As soon as it was "deemed unlawful" (which our Constitution does not allow) liberals would use the very same language to "deem unlawful" Christianity and Judaism. You can count on it.
Good for you! That is using the old noggin. Where was that? York? Bar Harbor?
LOL!
I recall buying a pin in a Bangor gift shop that read “Burkah Beauty Contest Winner.” At the time, I was surprised at its presence in a notoriously liberal part of the country. I reckon I understand now...
>>>Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali woman who fled to Europe to avoid marriage to someone she didnt like, has written several books about the Somali clan structure and Islam. Her books are pretty devastating. They offer little hope of any reconciliation between Islam and modernity:
Infidel
Nomad: A Personal Journey Through the Clash of Civilization
The Caged Virgin : A Muslim Womans Cry for Reason
You said it! I read Infidel recently. Amazing book by a lady who’s led an extraordinary life by any standards. I’ve always been grateful to’ve been born an American, but that book reminded me so repeatedly.
Anyone who thinks Islam a mere religion like any other, or discounts terrorists as extremists operating outside of Islam... Man, you need to read this book and wake TFU.

I remember reading about the immigration to Maine. Christian missionaries were working in Africa to rescue the Christians from being maimed and slaughtered by Muslims. They got some to the US into Maine...then the Muslims followed them in immigration. As usual, Americans got screwed for trying to help. As I recall, Christian missionaries were over there actually “buying” Christian slaves from Muslims so they could get them free! There was a lot of controversy about it but they were in dire straights.
We have to confront and tame Islam in the US much better than they have done in Europe. I know the immigration won’t stop and the struggle for Islam won’t stop. It’s now one of the politicians’ power/money base and religion of political correctness. Americans have to be educated, ready and willing to put it down politically, socially and legally. Currently, we are out to lunch as it makes progress.
Someone had done their homework. One of the most generous welfare benefit areas happened to be Lewiston, Maine. It also happened to have one of the lowest number of recipients. When the number of newcomers got to 1,600 persons. the then mayor pleaded with the Somali community (so called) in Georgia, not to send anymore persons. He said their resources were strained to the limit. He was called a racist.
I noted at the time, that city had then employed a Canadian lady, who was a sort of multi-cultural assimilation expert in Canada. I knew what was coming. I have heard this type of person ad nauseum, in Canada. Look sideways and one is a racist. Now I learn that

another aspect here is that the Refugee Resettlement Non profit was going out of business and needed more refugees to justify its existence.

Not going to happen, it is another wedge the left uses to destroy the country.
Not exactly.
Congressman Baldacci, and Jack Nicholas, then head of the Catholic Charities of Maine, rigged up the whole deal.

All this lead me to do some research on the Somali presence in Canada. After all it would seem a little smug or insular to cast some judgmental eye on the United States. I learn that there are 80,000 Somalis in the City of Toronto. So far so good, for it is over 400 miles away from Great Lakes country at the Michigan border.
Now the call for employment in the booming economy of Alberta has brought a few thousand young Somali men to Edmonton. We learn that lack of employable skills and work ethics that differ, have doomed many to the streets. Gang murders have erupted. Dismay has been expressed.
Excuse the ramble but the affliction that pervades Canada, seems to afflict America too (for some). For when I came to Canada many years ago, I was told to forget what I figured was what. "You are in Canada now". I had to adapt or return to the United Kingdom. I searched until I found the right place and stayed.
Now the whole attitude seems to have changed, except for some brave souls. As in Edmonton, Alberta, monies are being poured in to agencies. Social workers and others exhort the Somalis to try to be nice. Few dare tell them to "shape up or ship out".
Sad it is.
