~When The Heat is On, New Face Paint Keeps Soldiers Safe ~
Face paint isnt just for looks anymore. Recently, U.S. researchers have developed a camouflage face paint that can withstand the heat from a bomb blast and protect soldiers from severe burns during combat.
The face paint that soldiers have used makes the radiative heat from bomb blasts worse because it contains oil and wax, according to a Gizmodo article.
Researchers at the University of Southern Mississippi were given funding by the U.S. Department of Defense to create a heat-resistant product that would keep soldiers safe. Robert Lochhead, a professor of polymer science at the university, presented the material to the American Chemical Society about three weeks ago. The detonation of a roadside bomb or any other powerful explosive produces two dangerous blasts, Lochhead said in a news release from the American Chemical Society. First comes a blast wave of high pressure that spreads out at supersonic speeds and can cause devastating internal injuries. A thermal blast follows almost instantaneously. It is a wave of heat that exceeds 1,112 degrees Fahrenheit. Thats as hot as a burning cigarette. The thermal blast lasts only two seconds, but it can literally cook the face, hands and other exposed skin.
To shield skin from this heat, the team of researchers formulated a camouflage makeup that acts as a protective barrier to the face and hands for 15 seconds before a first-degree burn would appear, according to the release. This time would give soldiers a chance to move away from the heat.
The face paint consists of silicones, which absorb radiation and are not as flammable. It is also waterproof and insect proof, as DEET, surrounded by a hydrogel substance, was added to the formula. The release states that Lochhead and his team have plans to transfer the usefulness of this material to tents, clothes and other military items. *More info here*

Least Powerful People
October 5, 2012
An unusual list called The 100 Least Powerful People in the World appeared in the online publication 24/7 Wall St. Among those selected were corporate executives, sports figures, politicians, and celebrities who shared one common characteristicthey used to be powerful. Some were victims of circumstances, others made poor business decisions, while others lost their influence because of moral failure.
In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul draws a somber lesson from Old Testament history. The people Moses led from slavery in Egypt toward freedom in the Promised Land kept turning their backs on God who had delivered them (vv.1-5). Idolatry, immorality, and grumbling were among the things that brought them down (vv.6-10). Paul points to their collapse as an example to us, and sounds this warning: Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall (v.12).
Every follower of Jesus can stand firm on Gods promise: He will see to it that every temptation has a way out, so that it will never be impossible for you to bear it (v.13 Phillips). All of us have power to influence others in their faith. How tragic to squander it by yielding to a temptation that God has empowered us to resist.
Lord, there are temptations to sin everywhere. Help me
not to give in. Make me sensitive to see the ways out
that You provide. I want my love for You to be real and
to encourage others in their faith journey.
The best way to escape temptation is to run to God.

For what it’s worth, I really appreciate these threads. I don’t comment but enjoy them thoroughly.
They take me back. Every veteran knows what I’m talking about.
The smell of slightly moldy canvas and diesel exhaust. The sound of a tent flapping in the wind and the reliable hum of a generator. The flat texture of CARC paint and dull pinch on your thumb from loading rounds into your magazines.
I miss it...
