I guess this was inevitable.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joined the chorus of Republicans criticizing President Obama's response to the violence in Libya on Monday, going so far as to suggest that the administration's handling of the situation is worse than Watergate -- the scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon: "I think this is an issue -- Benghazi-gate is the right term for this. This is very, very serious, probably more serious than Watergate."
Now, Blackburn struggled to explain what it is about the attack she considers Watergate-like, or even what she's accusing the administration of, exactly.
But for those keeping score at home, we've now reached the sixth Republican-identified Watergate of the Obama era.

The Weekly Standard, September 2011:Will the 'Fast and Furious' Scandal Be Obama's Watergate?

Putting aside the fact that Republicans really need a new touchstone to serve as a point of historical comparison, there may come a point at which the administration is embroiled in a legitimate scandal, and I wonder whether Blackburn and other assorted GOP partisans will regret having cried wolf quite so many times.

Very Watergate-like.
Comparing Benghazi or Fast and Furious to Watergate does a disservice to Watergate. Yes, the break-in and cover up showed a contemptuous attitude toward the Constitution on the part of the Nixon administration, but nobody died.
Obama, Holder, et al, have shown that same contempt for the Constitution in a myriad of ways and yet Woodstein and Bernward (and the rest of the lap dog media) are silent.
Maddow is right (and about the only thing Maddow and I would ever agree on is the time of day), Republicans need to find a new touchstone for corruption, but not for the reasons she thinks.
Because Benghazi is far, far worse than Watergate.
By defending and attempting to obfuscate the incompetence of the Obama Administration’s handling of the events that resulted in the deaths of at least six Americans in Libya, Rachel Maddow has forfeited her humanity.
Hope the Congressional hearings are broadcasted live every day up until the election.... and the networks have no choice but to cover it.
“Blackburn struggled to explain what it is about the attack she considers Watergate-like”
It’s not about the act, it’s about the COVER-UP of the act. To me, that is what is Watergate-like.
"By defending and attempting to obfuscate the incompetence of the Obama Administrations handling of the events that resulted in the deaths of at least six Americans in Libya, Rachel Maddow has forfeited her humanity."
The sole purpose of MSDNC is to give a bunch of white hosts an opportunity to deflect potential criticism of their greed. If Larry O'Donnell and Maddow weren't Democrats, they would be treated as typical, privileged white people, hoarding millions of dollars while the poor suffer.
Instead, they get the best of both worlds- they get to hold onto the most important thing to them (money) without anybody criticizing them, and they get their devious joy out of duping poor black people they pretend to care about. Last time I checked, nobody was holding up a gun to Maddow's head preventing her from redistributing her precious wealth even though tax rates haven't increased lately...
Is that like “legitimate rape”?
Yeah, like they covered the Fast and Furious indictments. According to the MRC, ABCNBCCBS cumulatively dedicated less than two minutes of airtime to that story.
The mainstream media may be irretrievably corrupt.
RICKIE. Your right BENGHAZI and FAST & FURIOUS don’t compare to WATERGATE. NOBODY DIED IN WATERGATE. I would say a better comparison would be ELIGIBILITY GATE.
“Rickie?”
