Agency works to rid Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool of algae
Washington Post ^ | September 25, 2012 | Stefanie Dazio

Less than a month after reopening, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is full of algae, a sea of green overshadowing the nearly two-year, $34 million renovation of the famous site.

[snip]

“This is a direct consequence of the fact that this is a green project,” Johnson said. “The conditions are pretty good for algae, once it gets in there.”

I’d never been to the reflecting pool until the summer of 2010. It was probably the nastiest place that you could imagine....and it was best to stay a good fifty feet away from the water. My recommendation....if they can’t fix the algae problem...let’s just fill the place in with dirt, grass and trees.

The Washington Monument is cracked and inaccessible probably forever.

Obama's "Green Program" has ruined the Reflecting Pool

And Martin Luther King has ruined a site reserved for soldiers and Presidents.

Who said you can't change Washington from the inside.

They didn't expect this problem? It means that someone screwed up royally....OR THIS WAS INTENDED...

So who gets the big bucks to fix it??

No algae EVER before Obama. "Slime comes to Washington".

Back in ‘76 it was beautiful, the water was never still (even though it looked like it) and I saw people wading in it (wasn’t allowed but nobody made it an issue). No fish in it. I think the one statement “ It was a green project” probably sums it all up. Where was the zinc paint liner? The anti algae additives?

Big government thinking: The algae bloom problem is caused by global warming. Therefore, we need to cool the planet in order to clear the reflecting pool...

I got the impression that the duck population really had a major part in algae growth. Instead of hanging around the river....they chose the reflecting pool.

*sigh*

I suppose we’ll have to commission a study and spend millions of dollars for a six-month project, when a couple of crews of guys in pickup trucks could have this wrapped up in a couple of weeks.

THAT I would not deny. A lake (pond, actually around here) has so many gooses shiiting everywhere that you can’t take the kids there, can’t fish the thing correctly and I wouldn’t put my bass boat in it to keep from burning up my Minn-kota. Yet the County won’t let hunting the flying the rats depopulate the area, because that’s cruel.

What’s the problem?

The Reflecting Pool is doing its job- reflecting that DC is filled with scum.

The park service said the project was an overall success, and the algae is just a small bump in the road.

The Obama nation of desolation, represented by a mucky pool of green stagnation.

The reflecting pools of the Taj Mahal are manually cleaned out a few times every day. My folks took photos and the workers were proud of their results. There are plenty of already government paid folks in DC with time on their hands. Go FDR and assign some to the WPA (Water Purification Activity.) Wouldn’t surprise me if the FDR monument could use some WPA as well. This would be budget neutral for the city; might even be a plus by increasing tourism revenue.

HEck they should be celebrating their success — they said it was a “green project” and by god it is now GREEN!
