Wal-Mart is reportedly planning to stop sales of Amazon Kindle products in its stores, Reuters reported, apart from its existing inventory and pending orders.
According to Reuters, the decision was outlined in a memo obtained by the wire service that said the change is in line with the company’s merchandising strategy. It follows a similar decision from retailer Target, which announced in May that it would no longer sell Kindle devices.

While Wal-Mart is the world’s largest retailer, it competes fiercely with Amazon, which is ambitiously expanding the number of goods and services that it delivers straight to its customers — often through devices such as the Kindle e-reader and the Kindle Fire tablet. Amazon could not be immediately reached for comment.
Retailers have been particularly critical of the online marketplace and its contribution to the trend of “showrooming.” They complain that customers often come into their brick-and-mortar stores to see or try out products that they’re interested in buying, only to leave and purchase the goods online, where prices often do not include sales taxes.

Last time I ordered a book from Amazon, they sent the wrong one. I sent it back, but still haven't received the one I ordered. At a brick-and-mortar store, that wouldn't have happened.
Sadly, brick-and-mortar bookstores are becoming scarce.
They do that a lot. It’s no fluke. Half the cameras on display aren’t charged either.
Not just that the Kindles aren’t charged, it’s that there are no Kindles on display - just lousy B&W photos of them.
Like if the cameras on display were just photos of them (and showing “low battery” indicators at that).
The Fire HD is a great device, but it’s an Amazon device. It’s never going to really compete with the iPad or a full fledged Android tablet like the Galaxy series. These new budget tablets are in the end, budget tablets.
The nook line is so vastly superior, it isn’t surprising.

You know what? That right there is the embodiment of the free enterprise system. ." Someone, i.e. Amazon, has found a way to make a living by selling things cheaper. If bookstores can figure out a way to beat Amazon's deals, they are free to do so. That is what has made America great. Having said that, I have cut back on my Amazon orders due to their support for gay marriage because I am free to do so. Competition is good. Freedom is good. Free Enterprise is good. I'm sure that if there were no way to order products online, books and such would be much more expensive in stores.
Without Remorse is my 2nd favorite book. Ender’s Game being my favorite.
Been there. Done that. Cannot remember the last book I purchased from B&N. Significantly more expensive than Amazon.
And yet bricks & motor book stores (to say nothing of video stores) are going broke. Borders is now “Boarded Up”.

I buy books on my kindle/iPad. The reason is not that I can’t or won’t go to the bookstore. It is because I can change the type at will. I find that easier to read. It is really that simple. It has nothing to do with delivery, the bookstore, or taxes.
It's neither. The vast differences in operating expenses and purchasing power account for the differences in price. The problem is with those who showcase items before purchasing. This is the consumer that will cry to high heaven when he can't personally inspect product before buying online, when the online retailers run the brick and mortar stores out of business.
If you want to buy online, fine. I buy a lot online myself. However, if I go to Best Buy and eat up an hour of the sales guy's time, I recognize that as a service, and I'll buy the product there if I want it. Sadly many don't grasp that.
The Fire and iPad are too big and don’t get lost in your hands IMO. The Touch is perfect.

There is something to be said for that. I bought a new 10.1” tablet that’s only slightly larger than the iPad, and my wife took over my old 7” tablet. She’s completely abandoned her Ipad for it, and I still miss it. I see a Google Nexus 7 in my future for that reason.

After 15 years and literally hundreds of books and movies, Amazon finally screwed up an order. It took a little emailing and website navigating but UPS picked up the return package for free and Amazon credited my account. To get what I ordered from a brick-and-mortar store I would have had to chase my tail all over town.
