A plurality of Americans approved of President Obamas handling of events in the Mideast, but by a wide margin Americans had a negative reaction to the way his Republican opponent Mitt Romney has reacted to the events, according to a Pew Research Center poll.
The new poll found that, of those Americans who had paid attention to the protests, riots and killing of Americans in recent days, 45% approved of Obamas moves, while 36% disapproved. Judgments of Romney were far more negative, with only 26% approving and 48% disapproving.
Romney came under fire even from Republicans last week when he condemned Obama for what he said was apologizing to and sympathizing with those who waged the attacks. He based that on a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo that did not apologize and was released during protests but before any attacks had been made.

Who are they polling? Who would side with this limp-wristed reaction. Nay, I’m not sure it was a reaction. Obama and Hillary delliberately sent our Ambassador to his death and prohibited any protection of him. Who agrees with that?
When they take the time to read media outside the country (like the Daily Mail article), they are usually furious.
The ME headache for Obama isn’t over. Like Colon Powell said: “Mr. pResident, if you break it you own it.”
Who are the sheeple going to believe, the liberal media or their lying eyes?
Polls like this are meant to discourage us. Ignore them. If we turn out to vote, and bring our conservative friends with us, we’ll win.
Frankly, I am a little pissed off at Romney's team for not making that crystal effing clear.
What if ALL THE FACTS WERE PRESENTED BEFORE those being polled, were asked the question?
As is, the only question the poll is answering is “Has the media complicity in the Obama lie been successful?”
Statement from US Enbassy in Cario
“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions,”
This is what Hillary said:
“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind,”
This is what Romney said
I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks,
Romney was dead on.
Is this a news article or an opinion piece? I'm really confused about what Romney actually did that, a week later, people are still harping on it? Whatever it was, "even Republicans(?) have condemned it. Sounds drastic, but I'm guessing the Republicans are named Kristol, Erickson and Carlson?
See #29
How is it that Team Romney knows how to defeat Conservatives but not Communists??
POLL: MORE AMERICANS BELIEVE IN BIG FOOT THAN ANYTHING THE LA TIMES PRINTS I polled my four dogs. They’re all Republicans, but the little one is sneaky and he would vote for Obama if he gave him a cookie.....the dog, not Obama.
I still hear ABC news going on about "ill made comments by Mitt Romney." Where are they coming from? He was right on the money. They always include that 'even republicans thought his comments inappropriate'.
I was live on Twitter when this happened and the one jackass on our side I did see go down that road was the guy from Red State - Erickson. He was/is a moron.
Come on people; if you believe any thing the LA Slimes prints, I have some Somali property I want to sell you.
Even if the Slimes got a poll saying something like this; they will spin it for their almighty Obastard, no matter who was polled or how the questions were framed.
The LA Slimes has been in the pocket of every corrupt democrap since the late 40s.
What are you mumbling to yourself about?
The Romney campaign is imploding before our eyes. They aren’t fight back and the candidate is saying stupid things out on the trail.
I felt in 2008 McCain was in cahoots with 0bama to throw the election......I am starting to think Romney is throwing the race to 0bama. The fix is in I am afraid.
I do. Time for ropes and oak limbs.
What this shows is that the State Owned Media successfully confused the issue to make it look like Romney had a knee jerk reaction. Romney’s words, “I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi.”
“It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
His words were in response to words the U.S. Embassy in Cairo issued with a statement condemning the YouTube film that was used as the rallying point for the rioters. The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
Even though the Embasy statement was before the seige by protesters, it was reitterated after the breach.
Romney gained on Obama in all relevant polls over the past 5 days.
Either the poll is flat-out wrong or Americans simply don’t care about the Middle East. Likely both.
