Here’s one I’ve enjoyed, “Silver Stallion” by Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall. Folksy, bluesy, a little bit of early Velvet Underground and some nineties Liz Phair influence, very interesting smoky voice voice and unusual style.

This one is from a few years back, but she has a new album out just this month, her ninth, entitled “Sun.” A track or two from it are getting a fair amount of exposure on alt rock channels and college stations.

I doubt she’ll ever be a mainstream hit machine, but she is a unique talent.
