Mitt Romney does not currently receive national security briefings, his campaign confirmed to CBS News today.
Typically, presidential candidates begin receiving briefings after securing their party's nomination, which Romney did in Tampa two weeks ago.
"It's a long-standing practice for presidential candidates and select advisers to be provided intelligence briefings following the party's nominating convention," Shawn Turner, the spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, told CNN in June. "During the last presidential campaign, all the candidates began receiving briefings in September following the conventions."
Turner tells CBS News the process is "moving forward."
"The Intelligence Community is working closely with the Romney campaign to finalize the logistics for the candidate briefings," he told CBS News. "The process is moving forward on schedule and we are not aware of any concerns."

I don’t think Romney should get them anyway until he is President. McCain was fine as he was already a Senator on the Arms Service Committee. Romney is a private citizen not even in government.
Here’s an Obama briefing:
“I think it breaks a little to the left”
Well, O doesnt appear to attend the briefings...
“It’s a long-standing practice for presidential candidates and select advisers to be provided intelligence briefings following the party’s nominating convention,” Shawn Turner, the spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, told CNN in June. “During the last presidential campaign, all the candidates began receiving briefings in September following the conventions.”
One needs to be prepared if one is going to be President.
The thought occurred to me, that during a crisis like this during an election, the “Presidential” thing to do is to summon the nominee to the White House for a briefing on the situation and coordinate a common response from both candidates, to take the politics out of it. But of course, that thought would have never occurred to Obama.
?
Presidential candidates have received these types of intelligence and national security briefings over the years in order to inform candidates and also alert them to sensitive matters that could be potentially harmful to national security if the candidate were to inadvertently or unknowingly make statements.
Gee....didn’t Bush call both 0bama and McCain to brief them on the financial crisis?
Maybe Obama doesn’t get security briefings because he is a security risk. Between the leaks and his questionable associations it might havebeen decided to take him out of the loop for the good of the country.
But of course when the outgoing Clinton people vandalized the keyboards of the White House computers, they were just carrying on an old American tradition dating back to when the Washington administration gave way to the Adams administration. Sort of like frat house pranks.
Wouldn’t work to meet with the candidates and coordinate a common response. First, someone has to be in charge. You don’t want to have two or three people in charge (not sure if Obama realizes this key point of leadership). Second, what if the proposed responses from the candidates are significantly different? If Candidate A has one response that he feels is appropriate, and Candidate B is a different response to which he is equally committed, why should either espouse a different course in which he doesn’t really believe?
This is ridiculous! Romney has been the presumptive nominee since LAST SPRING. Romney should have been getting them at least since then.
That could be a possiblity...
It's not just Chicago politics, but Kenyan politics. The Obama-Odinga connection, for example. The paragraphs below are from a website that was trying to warn people back in 2008 but not enough people got the message:
Why Did Barack Obama Try to Hide the Obama and Odinga Connection?SOURCE: Obama and OdingaRaila Odinga enjoyed the support of Kenya's Muslim community in the election, while denying any ties to Muslim leaders. That lie was exposed when Sheik Abdullah Abdi, chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum, appeared on Kenya television displaying a memorandum of understanding signed on Aug. 29, 2007, by Mr. Odinga and the Muslim leader.
According to published reports, U.S. Senator Barack Obama "bundled" nearly $1 million to support the election of this man! Close behind him in contributions to the Odinga campaign was the son of Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi, who has publicly endorsed Barack Obama.
I know big “O” hates Romney, is that the reason?
It should not matter who the Republican candidate was. Everyone knows that SOMEONE would be nominated and there should be a process in place to brief that person, whoever it turns out to be.
It’s not surprising to me that Barry’s administration is as effective in getting Romney’s briefings going as I expect them to be in getting our servicemen’s votes cast and counted.
LOL
So the Obama Administration is slow to get its act together to give Romney briefings and the story is spun to look like Romney isn’t interested in getting briefings. And of course, the media spins it this way to protect Obama from the charge that he ignores and isn’t interested in his own briefings. These media tools have turned into a full-blown wing of the DNC.
