Mitt Romney's Ohio Problem [Ohio A Must-Win for Romney or It's All Over!]

Mitt Romney's Ohio Problem By Z. Byron Wolf

ABC OTUS News - Mitt Romney's Ohio Problem (ABC News) Forget post-convention bounces - the numbers that really matter are in the battleground states, where President Obama's polling advantage is more concerning to Mitt Romney's team than any national numbers. No Republican has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio, and Romney isn't in a strong position to become the first.

According to ABC News' latest race ratings, President Obama is in strong position for 237 electoral votes, when leaning and solid Democratic states and combined. Mitt Romney has only 206 votes he can expect in his column, as of now.

Add in Ohio's 18 electoral votes, though, and Obama stands at 255 - within striking distance of the magic number of 270. Romney would need to win nearly every other battleground state - a list that includes Paul Ryan's Wisconsin, once thought to be safely Democratic - to pull out the presidency without Ohio.

I have the poll that was out last Friday showing Mitt up, and when adjusted for real OH #s, up by 10. It was posted here on FR.

And that's a screwy answer "they poll everywhere." Seriously? You're going to claim that a poll ostensibly done about OH is going to have ONLY questions about Dem Convention speakers, about who "gets more credit for killing Osama bin Ladin, Obama or Romney (!!!!)," and asks about a Massacusetts senate candidate---but not the OH senate candidate on (once again) an OH poll?

No, to someone like you who hates Romney, this makes perfect sense. LOL.

I didn't say Romney is "more conservative" than any of those people. He isn't. I'm asking, if "conservatism always wins," why didn't the more conservative candidates win the primary?

And my answer is, it's about a lot more than merely conservatism. It's about personal appeal and looks, it's about money, it's about organization (which almost all Freepers here poo-pooed me when I said that Palin had no organization at all and the people I know who worked with her said she was not well organized).

But do you really need an answer to this question, "What's the case to vote for him other than 'He's not Obama?' That's like asking, "What's the case to vote for the other guy except that he's not Satan." It's not close.

You make it sound like it’s surprising that they poll Ohio?

Hardly. They put out polls all the time in many different states. Just because you don’t like the result doesn’t make it odd that they would poll Ohio right now.

“Notice you didn’t deny the non-conservative accusation.

FR is besieged by misguided people who think advocating more Marxist control is good for this country, but the conservatives who remember 2006 outnumber them.”

Fine then. Please quote any of my posts where I’ve advocated Marxism anywhere.

I was a Santorum supporter in the primaries.

Well, let’s see. Cain got destroyed by Mittbots. Same with Santorum.

Now the same Mittbots are whining when we don’t ‘fall in line’.

We’ve been following your dirty tricks for a year and a half now.

“But do you really need an answer to this question, “What’s the case to vote for him other than ‘He’s not Obama?’ That’s like asking, “What’s the case to vote for the other guy except that he’s not Satan.” It’s not close.”

There are plenty of people who are not Obama that I’m not voting for. You ask me to choose between Obama who advocates forcing me to pay for the slaughter of innocents and Romney who advocates the same.

If the best you can do is, “he’s not Obama”, that’s simply not good enough.

No, your argument "isn't good enough." So poor old Rick and Herm "got destroyed". Well, if their powerful conservative arguments, which "win every time they are tried" didn't work then, then they weren't so strong after all. And they certainly wouldn't be strong enough to defeat Obama.

As for who you don't vote for, I could care less. Any vote that doesn't contribute to a Romney win elects Obama---and you can spin that any way you want to sooth your conscience, but it's the reality of the 2-party system. Move to France if you want to be sanctimonious and vote your conscience, but in a winner take all system, you don't get that easy way out.

Any vote for Romney supports Romneycare and abortion. You can spin it however you want. You have to work that out with your conscience, mine is clean. I’m not going to support anyone who supports abortion I don’t care whether they have a D or an R by their name.

Simple math demonstrates that a vote for someone not Romney not Obama is not the same as a vote for Obama. Romney needs a vote to make up for every Obama vote cast. Romney does not need a vote to make up for every third party vote cast.

Wow. You are dense, and clearly haven't even looked at the poll. I'll try it again, real slow.

Of course a polling org "polls everywhere." But if your purpose is to sample a race in Ohio, then you make sure that the attitudes reflect those of Ohio respondents. You ask about issues on the ballot in Ohio--- not Georgia or Massachusetts. You ask about Ohio races as well as the presidential race.

When, however, ALL of your questions deal with a totally different subject (I.e., opinions of speakers at the Dem Convention--and ONLY at the Dem convention) it's clear that you believe all of your respondents have seen or were at the Dem convention. Now, no pollster in his right mind would suppose that such a sample would include ANY Republicans in such a sample, let alone a legitimate sample size for a poll.

Here is what almost certainly happened: PPP had done a poll about convention speakers among DNC attendees, then added on a separate Ohio question (done who knows when) to their reall poll of Dems. But either way, it's totally bogus as a poll.

President Bush only won because he took Ohio BARELY. I don’t see how you think President Bush would have won without Ohio. Kerry was WAY too close to the Presidency.

I'm not following you...where did I say Bush could have won without Ohio? There is nothing in that post that would even imply that.

In any event, Bush won Ohio by 118,000 votes. Not a landslide or wide margin by any means, but also more than "barely."

It matters little what you want to do or I want to do. Of course we want to free people from permanent dependence on welfare.

Now try selling that thought to someone who is receiving government checks. I will bet my paycheck 90% will vote for Obama. A lot of these people are in this situation in the first place because they have lacked the drive to pull themselves up. Only a small fraction are in that situation because of a genuine handicap to be competitive.

Besides knowledge of polling methods? You’ve already shown you don’t understand the basics of polling.

How can a failed President down 8 points in properly adjusted polls be ahead or win? Makes no sense to me.

I don’t watch tv but hopefully Romney is running ads in PA, OH and WV on how obama is deliberately crushing the coal industry.

In Northern Ohio where the majority of the population of Ohio is I doubt that the majority of the population even knows that Ohio is a coal producing state. In the Northern Ohio coal does not generate jobs or taxes and few people are likely to care. They don’t realize that the loss of coal jobs in the south does effect them because the lost taxes in the south will have to be made up by people in the North.

Southern Ohio leans Republican already so telling them that Obama is anti-coal will not really be that effective.

Are you sure that Pa is exporting coal to China because I know Chine exports low sulfur coal to the US.

With Obama’s disastrous foreign policy, hammering him on that is the path to victory for Mitt, in light of today’s events.

I think Romney is afraid to play hard ball with the first black President. He does not want to appear in any way racist.

Any criticism of the One is immediately labeled racist by the Leftist media talkers.

How he expects to win with out attacking Obama I haven’t a clue. I he can’t get the word out to the independent voters that Obama is a Marxist bent on destroying the premier capitalist nation of the world no one else will.

The MSM will stifle any story that might suggest that Obama is any thing other than your standard Democrat with the best intensions for this country.
