Canada's Conservative government said Friday it is shutting its embassy in Tehran and severing diplomatic relations with Iran, which Canada says is providing military assistance to Syria.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said that the Canadian embassy in Tehran will close immediately and Iranian diplomats in Canada have been given five days to leave.
Baird, who serves in a government that is a staunch ally of Israel, said Iran is the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today.

Pretty sad when Canada’s government is more Conservative than ours. WTF
Will Israel/Iran war be perceived as a failure of 0bama’s foreign policy? IT SHOULD.
The phase of the moon is not important and it is best to fly the mission in total darkness.
IR targeting pods and the FLIR are not affected by the moon, and targeting guidance is GPS and does not require any light at all.
Canada is just getting ready for the inevitable Israeli strike and not be complacent like we were in 1979.
Whoa, hugh and series. The Canadian Embassy played an important role during Carter’s hostage crisis. And now even the tolerant Canucks have had enough? Or did they receive “a word to the wise ...”
Here is the money quote:"Baird, who serves in a government that is a staunch ally of Israel..."
Please note that Harper is not supporting Israel for political reasons. Canada's Jews vote overwhelmingly liberal, even though the last liberal leader was an anti-semite. He supports Israel because it is the right thing to do.
The last time Canada closed it's embassy was in 1980 when the Canadian ambassador came out with 6 Americans he saved from captivity. It's just something you do for your friends.
I wish PM Harper would send a squadron of CF-18's to help Israel maintain security of their airspace, if they need it. We could spare a couple of frigates too.
Re post 7. Yup.
Yup
Regarding GPS, you’re assuming the Obama Admin doesn’t determine it needs to be taken down for “urgent, unforseen” systems maintenance when the Israeli strike is inbound ...
IT SHOULD.
Carter more than all the rest put together. Reagan was arguably using Iranian assistance for the Afghans to tie up the Soviet Union.
Way to go Rusty!!! So proud of you!
Well which is it then? If it's best to fly in total darkness then a moonless night IS important. As crosslink pointed out, that window starts to close on the 15th.
Good move before things go booming over there!
The Empty Chair and Putin will do everything they can to thwart a successful Israeli strike. Russia has been moving missile assets into the region for some time now. And if I know that, Obama knows that!!
Israel is at the crossroads and they/we have been betrayed by this administration. It is funny how Obama thought no one would notice his blatant attempt to exclude Israel support from the DNC platform. And, yes, it was deliberate and he approved.
Strange times we live in...
It will be most telling if the Canadian DiploPersians actually return to Iran during the next five days. We may not hear but these are prominent guys and their presence in a “layover” country will most likely be noted. If Canucks happen to wind up as hostages these nimrods will feel a cold wind up their plumbercracks.
You can be sure that Harper’s government is not only watching everything that happens regarding Iran in the Middle East, they very likely have Iranian groups inside Canada under surveillance because as a solid ally of Israel, Canada would be a prime target for those little Persian pricks when Netanyahu pulls the trigger on Iran.
As for the timing of the Israeli strike, Netanyahu will determine that primarily based on the odds of success, with political considerations so far as the U.S. election lower on the list of priorities. Bibi is a realist, he recognizes that 0bama and his lying goons are not to be trusted and I think it is a safe bet that he holds those bastards in utter contempt.
Bibi is in good company, SO DO WE!
