The Democrats who voted for Sen. Joe Manchin, who has backed Obama to the hilt, should be unemployed. Sympathies to those who had more sense.

It is well established that coal releases mecury which is a toxix nerve agent, into the atmosphere. Sulphur Dioxide does exactly make life easy for farmers either. Gas is cheap and it makes the most sense right now. Time for WV to move on.

The nauseating thing is that for every coal fired plant we *shut down*,thus endangering our economy and our way of life,China opens up 10 of them, plants that aren't even remotely as clean as our dirtiest ones.I've been to Hong Kong and southern China...recently and often. The clearest day you'll see there is like a pea soup London fog except what you're seeing ain't fog. It's pollution from coal fired power plants and factories spewing out the filthiest stuff you can imagine. We have a 300 year supply of coal but we can't use it ‘cause “progressives” wanna make things easier for their Commie pals in China!!!

Hopefully the East Coast will experience several brown-outs before the November elections - more “Hope-n-Change” is on the way!

I’m in PA and I am scared to death to open my electric bills every month. My electricity has tripled in the past two years. It’s insane.

Some people just never get it. He is cruising toward reelection too. Manchin votes for Harry Reid as Senate majority leader and supports him on key votes. Then Manchin turns around and grumbles about how horrible Washington is to his constituents, and shoots a bullet through the Obamacare regulations, and everyone thinks he’s some independent. Manchin votes for Harry Reid to be in charge of the Senate. That’s all you need to know to understand how badly Manchin is screwing up our economy. All the ads in the world with him with a rifle don’t change that.

U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., has supported Obama’s campaign since it began.

“The claims you are hearing from the McCain-Palin campaign are misleading and untrue,” Rockefeller said in a news release. “Barack Obama has been very clear with me and with you on his plan for clean coal and it’s the most aggressive plan in support of clean coal we’ve seen from any presidential candidate.

“The idea that the McCain-Palin campaign is alleging the day before the election that Barack Obama’s commitment to coal is anything but solid is absolutely ridiculous,” he added.

“This is exactly the kind of deceptive politicking voters are fed up with.”

I wonder what Rockefeller has to say now.

In November I’ll remember, and thank, Joe Manchin and BO as I pull the lever!

First Energy is my new power company. When I moved here my monthly bill was under $100. This month I get the privilege of paying them more than $500! BO’s desire to bankrupt the coal industry is coming to fruition! But I, and you, will be the causalities.

ALL of the above. We need to produce as much DOMESTIC energy as fast as we can. COAL included.

The interesting thing about the stated reasoning behind these closuress is that the mercury regs don’t go into effect until 2015.

I haven't been around nor talked with coal plant operators in about 15 years, but even in those days they were using very efficient filtration systems, “bag” houses to scrub pollutants from emissions. They will tell you that when you see white clouds over their plants, it is from steam not coal fumes. When you see black clouds, they are having a problem and in the process of correcting it. There are no such filtration systems on the emissions from cars, forest fires and volcanoes

Obama Called for Bankrupting Coal Fired Power Plants

Obama Keeps Promise to Bankrupt Coal Power Plants

“If somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

That was Barack Obama in 2008.

Today, the E.P.A. has issued new guidelines and standards for coal fired plants effective in in early 2012.

“From the start, his Energy Secretary [Steven] Chu called coal his ‘worst nightmare.’ Biden once said ‘no coal [plants here] in America.’ The president has had a hostile, aggressive stance against coal and now we’re seeing the impact on hardworking everyday Americans,” he added.

Shut them and others down. Coal is inferior to natural gas. If West Virginians want to keep digging for coal be my guest - but not on my dime!

Many coal plants are going to be shut down over the next few years. This has been an ongoing story for sometime now. Here is a map showing the plant locations.
